I love to create and explore within many different mediums. My artwork celebrates my western Canadian roots and the unique landscape, animals and birds that make up the spirit of this place. My whimsical side is fed by sculpting wood and creating works of art for kids...or anything that reminds me that art should be fun and playful!

Block Prints and Carved BlocksLimited Edition Block Prints • For Sale:Prints from a carved block are available for purchase as limited edition prints: only a finite number of prints are created on paper (usually under 20) and once the series is sold, they will no longer be available. Prints are available either unframed with foam core backing, or framed in a simple black frame with acid-free matting. See my "STORE" section on this website for pricing and availability, or contact me for further details!Original Carved Blocks • For Sale:These are a one-off carved block which is inked and sold as an original. No paper prints are ever pulled from these blocks. They are a one-of-a-kind block measuring 4-inches square, and 3/4 of an inch thick. The three-dimensional original block is framed in a black-framed drop-shadow box to protect it. See my "STORE" section for pricing and availability.How I Create Block PrintsA block print is a form of relief printing that is centuries old. Woodcuts first appeared in ancient China, and became popular in Europe in the mid-1400s when printed books made texts with pictures available to larger audiences. To create block prints, I follow this ancient tradition. I draw a sketch on a plank of wood, linoleum or other carving medium. The image is then carved by hand in reverse (much like a rubber stamp) so the final image is printed the right way around. I use a variety of carving tools to remove the parts of the block that I do not want to receive the ink, and these parts appear white in the final print. The raised parts that remain after carving are then inked with a roller, and a sheet of paper is placed over the inked block. The back side of the paper is then rubbed with a spoon, or gently with my hand. The paper is then pulled back from the block to reveal the printed piece and hung to dry overnight.

Wood CarvingMy hand-carved creations come in all different sizes: the shortest is 4-inches tall, and my tallest (at the moment) is 12-inches tall. I can custom-design Santas to include special markings or talismans, like the Santa listening to a conch shell for a friend who loves the beach. For something a little different, I also carve snowmen, monks, and now garden gnomes!A limited number of carvings are still available on my studio shelf! Block Print and Art Cards • For Sale!My favorite greeting cards are block printed cards. These cards are created in the woodblock tradition. Each 5" X 7" card is an original design that is transferred to a cutting block, carved by hand, hand-printed and individually signed. Each is printed on a high-quality card stock and comes with an envelope. The color cards of my paintings are high-quality offset-printed art cards, available in five designs. The folded cards measure 5" X 7". They are blank inside and come packaged with a white envelope.
