About us...
An enormous amount of studies has shown that people who practice sport regularly are overall happier, healthier and are able to get more done than people who don’t do sports. Therefore, we, the Sports Committee, have gathered information in order to provide you with the possibilities you have around Campus and The Hague in order to practice Sport. The Haagse Hogeschool, which is only 100 meters away from both our Campuses and it offers a large variety of sports, is just one of the many institutions around The Hague that enable students to practice sports. All you have to do, to be able to attend trainings is to apply for an HHS sports card (which is free, as it is subsidized by LUC and the city of the Hague). The members of the LUC Sports committee are:-Dennis Clement-Lennart Hoedemakers-Benjamin Kogan-Rashid Maas-Mauricio de Vries

Futsal at the HHS:Since there were not enough people for the Indoor Football Tournament at the HHS (all the first year students had History of Philosophy), we were unfortunately not able to set up a team that would play for LUC. This will hopefully change in the second Semester. It will start at the 29th of March and end at the 17th of May. Every Thursday during that time you will be playing from 19-22h against different teams. A team consists of at least 5 players, but since not everyone will always be able to play, more players (7-8) can join that team. Since we get the HHS Sport Pass for free it should not be an issue that 60 % of the players must have a HHS Sport Pass.Local Clubs:If you don’t want to play just Futsal or want more regular trainings we would advise you to join a local football team. There are many clubs around our Campus and in The Hague. Since there are many different levels of leagues here and around The Hague we would suggest that you choose a club that is not just near by but also suits you (it does not make any sense if you want to play 2x a week but join a team that trains 4x a week). The best way to find a local club is to go on:http://www.voetbalvereniging.com/Zuid-Holland or to talk to Rashid.Inter – UC Games and Tournaments:There will be a Inter-UC Tournament in the 2nd Semester, and since we want to do better than last year (3rd out of 4) there will be regular football trainings (at least once a month). Since most of you are busy at the moment and in the next upcoming weeks, we will have our first training session in the first few weeks of Semester 2 (dtba). Furthermore we are working on organizing Inter-UC-Football-Tournaments, where we will play against other UC Teams on Saturdays in Semester 2. More information regarding the Inter-UC-Football-Tournaments will follow as soon as we know where and when it will take place.

There are some tennis clubs around and in The Hague. The membership fees are the 2011 ones, but will probably give good indication of the 2012 ones. A membership means that you can play on the courts of the club you have your membership. In all of the membership fees mentioned below, the KNLTB (Dutch Tennis Bond) fee is included as well – meaning that you can join in national tournaments.Qravelhttp://www.qravel.nl/Einsteinweg 6 2333 CC LeidenWhen in position of a Sportcard of the Universitair Sportcentrum of Leiden, you only pay a membership fee of €35,-There is also the possibility to join classes, contact Qravel for further information.Thor de Bataafhttp://www.bataaf.nl/thor/default.aspxVer Huellweg 2 2585 JC Den HaagCourts: 18 all weather courts, of which 10 are smash courts and 8 are ProVision courts. Hockey
Hockey
There is great potential for hockey here at LUC, where there seemingly are many people interested in joining a club, or simply regularly playing with some friends. There are several possibilities to do so.There are many possibilities of joining hockey clubs in or around The Hague. These vary significantly, differing in size, seriousness, but also in price, location and accessibility. There are around nine different hockey clubs in the area of The Hague; the easiest way to find out which one appeals to you most is to simply go through their websites, or visit them personally. More information can be found on the following websites, with links to the hockey clubs’ websites:http://www.denhaag.nl/en/residents/to/Hockey-clubs.htmhttp://www.denhaag.nl/home/bewoners/to/Hockey-in-Den-haag.htmIn addition to that, there also is the possibility of joining student hockey teams in or near Leiden. The difference between these clubs and the clubs in The Hague mainly is that these clubs consist of students only, and that there are lots of additional events one can participate in with their club, ranging from bar nights to balls and BBQ’s Important to mention though, in addition to the contribution that has to be paid each year, one also has to pay for a Leiden sports cart, which equals to about €130 each year. The following student hockey clubs are in Leiden:“Leidse Studs”http://www.leidsestuds.nl/ “Thor” http://www.hockeyclubthor.nl/Finally, there are several possibilities of playing hockey at the University College of Utrecht. They generously have offered us to let us practice on their field, or play matches against them. This would be on every Monday, from 19:00-20:30, which not only provides us with an outstanding opportunity to play hockey and have fun, but also to get to know our co-University College students in Utrecht! For more information about this, please contact Lennart. As of now, there unfortunately is no hockey equipment available (sticks, shin pads etc.), so if one would like to play hockey, he/she would have to arrange for him/herself. We are working on this though, and would like to see this improved as soon as possible.
Basketball
Basketball
For the casual players who would like to play basketball on a regular basis, The Haagse Hogeschool offers free sessions in their Sports Hall on Mondays and Tuesdays from 20:30 onwards. On Mondays these sessions are proper practices, with an actual coach leading the practice. On Tuesdays it’s free play. In practice this means that the people who show up make teams and just have fun playing matches against each other. These sessions are free to access; however, you do need a The Hague sports pass in order to be able to join. During the first month of the school year, October, you can join these sessions without a sports pass. The Haagse Hogeschool also organizes an internal league. From February 2nd until March 8th 2012, teams can compete amongst each other on Thursdays from 19:30 until 22:00. In order to be able to participate in this tournament, teams have to sign up before Thursday January 26th 2012. You can do this at the sports office in The Haagse Hogeschool. Participants will need a sport pass. For the more serious players there is a student basketball team in Leiden called LUSV. They play at Sport Hal Einsteinweg 6 in Leiden. The contribution fee for joining this team is €110,- if you want to participate in a competition and €50,- if you just want to participate in practice. These practice hours are in the table below. Unfortunately as students living in The Hague, we don’t get a Leiden sport pass. As a result you would have to buy that separately in order to join LUSV. We’re working on trying to create a more beneficial situation for LUC students. For more information you can check out their website, which unfortunately is only in Dutch. http://www.lusvbasketball.nl/Practice hours:MenMonday: 21:30 – 23:00 M1 + M2 + M3 + M4Thursday: 20:00 – 21:30 M3 + M4 21:30 – 23:00 M1 + M2WomenTuesday: 20:00 – 21:30 W1 21:30 – 23:00 W2 + W3Thursday: 20:00 – 21:30 W1 + W2 21:30 – 23:00 W3 + W4LUSV also organizes a three-day International Mixed Basketball tournament in February. This tournament is a lot of fun and does not just focus on basketball alone. During this three-day tournament, that takes place from February 24th till February 26th, there will be plenty of time to socialize during the parties and games. The full schedule can be found on the website linked below. The costs for this tournament are 40 euros per player, but everything will be provided for you during those three days. Registration has to be done before January 14th. For more information, check out their website:http://www.lusvbasketball.nl/ITC/ For the very serious players, there are also two regular basketball clubs in The Hague, namely The Jumpers and ST4R:www.st4r.nlwww.hbvthejumpers.nl

Although there are several volleyball clubs around The Hague and Leiden, the most practical and easiest solution to play volleyball is at the Haagse Hogeschool. The schedule for volleyball at the Haagse Hogeschool is as follows:Every Wednesday, from 19:30 till 21:00. Note that, although not official, the volleyball instructor usually allows for an extra hour of free play, until 22:00, on the condition you put away the material before leaving. If you have any questions concerning volleyball, or information about local clubs do not hesitate to contact us.

Squash
Squash
As with volleyball, there are plenty of options around for practicing squash, but the most practical location is at SportCity, 10 minutes away by foot from the student housing. We try to organize a weekly LUC “squash day” so we can all get together and play.Since, until now, these “squash days” have been rather erratic, we recommend you join the “LUC Squash” Facebook group or contact Marki Ketelhodt for more extensive information on those days.Concerning the equipment, you do have to bring your own rackets, but you can buy balls at the SportCity. The price is 7.5 euros per person for 45 minutes on the courts. Note that with the Haagse Hogeschool sports card, this is discounted to 7.5 euros per two people, and Marki Ketelhodt is working on setting up additional subsidies from Fortuna. The times you can go to the SportCity are specified here: http://www.sportcity.nl/page/Clubs/Den-Haag/ContactIf you have any questions concerning squash that have not been answered by this information do not hesitate to contact us.
