About Camp Discovery . . .
At Camp Discovery our goal is to make learning fun by keeping children actively engaged through hands-on, minds-on learning. We use the natural curiosity of children to explore age appropriate science topics and mathematical principles. Our recipe for guaranteed participant delight is the combination of scientific concepts, experimental processes, surprising materials, creativity, character education and LOT'S OF SUMMER FUN. Children share in science discovery while being introduced to science concepts through hands-on experiments, activities and take-home science projects. Our programs reinforce the five core knowledge areas of science: Life Science, Physics, Chemistry, Space/Earth Science and Technology. Sessions also include language arts and mathematical components which are created to enrich and empower children to reach their full potential.
How Does Our Program Work . . .
We use science as the bases to work on all the major area's of learning over the summer.
* In order to complete scientific process campers must READ and COMPREHEND the information provided
* By working with their peers participants gain SOCIAL and LANGUAGE skills
* Most science projects and experiments require the use of MATH functions to succesfully complete them
* Even though we are an academic based program we still spend 50% of the summer engaging in traditional
summer day camp activites such as swimming, field trips and arts and Crafts.

Educating Our Children
Parents all across our country are concerned about the quality of public education their children are receiving. Camp Discovery stands with parents in this fight and our programs are designed to keep students engaged and learning throughout the summer. Storybook Science address two skill sets literacy and critical thinking skills. Sensational Science and Earth Watch use exploration to gain confidence and master the scientific method. STEM Camp will challenge students to work above grade level and gain important academic skill sets. We are also here to offer support to parents who need help navigating the public education system (testing, special educations, IEP, etc.). We are here to help! We are available to come in and speak with parents and various organizations.
Science can be a wonderful way for children to gain confidence, explore their world and gain academic proficiency. If you are an organization, school, church or homeschool group who would like to form a science club please give us a call for more details

Read what other parents have to say about us . . .
Latasha, the Director, was very helpful and always timely with emails and in returning phone calls. She always had time to talk to a parent regarding concerns that you may have had. Her staff was as friendly as she was and took time with each child. I loved to talk to my daughter every day to see what project they were working on for the week. I wanted my daughter to enjoy her summer but continue to learn as well. I was very pleased to find such a Sumer Camp that believed in this. I can truly say that I can see an improvement in her studying this year. I do owe a lot of that to Latasha and her staff. They made each child feel important and even when we see one of them since school has started they ask her how is she doing in school. I have never seen my daughter so excited about getting up and going to learn during her summer vacation. I have recommended the camp to others

Science Fair Requirements
There are two requirements for all science fair entries, a logbook, research essay and exhibit board.
Logbook: The logbook contains a dated account of everything that concerns the project. Every student is required to keep detailed notes, original observations and data from the experiment in the logbook. From the logbook comes the information that will be the basis for the research essay. The log book is approximately 20 points of the final project score.
Exhibit Board: The purpose of the display is to show what the student has done. The exhibit should be visually appealing, using color and photos(must not include your face) to convey the work accomplished by the student. Photographs that are dated and labeled are useful to relay the progress of the experiment, and/or the outcome of the experiment. The exhibit includes a component called an abstract, which is a one-page summary that states the purpose, hypothesis, procedures and conclusion of the project
