A Bio
Lea Maryana Rivera is a young Filipino-American artist born on February 3, 1990 in the city of Honolulu, Hawaii, Rivera was raised with three of her siblings by Filipino-American parents. Her first picture was inspired from the beautiful seascapes of the island of Oahu. Ever since she was a little girl, Rivera loved to draw and paint images such as nature and people on paper. Her most favorite pieces to create were water scenes. After eight years, Rivera's family moved to the suburbs of west Chicago to pursue a more stable lifestyle due to financial difficulties living in Honolulu, Hawaii.
As she continued to grow into her intermediate and high school years, she pursued more classes to advance and better herself in art. (Continue Page 2)>>>

Today, Lea is continuing her journey as an artist and has recently exhibited a collection in June 2010, of oil paintings, acrylic, photographs, and mixed media of her recent adventures in the Philippines, the home country of her parents. The collection is called "Glimpses Of The Filipino", which is dedicated to the celebration of beauty in the Philippine lifestyle. (Continue Page 4)>>>
From the provinces, to the cityscapes of Manila, Rivera catches glimpses into the importance of cultural identity, as she has grown up a citizen in the United States not knowing the entirety of her roots.
Through this collection, she has started to expose herself through work for the Passport to the Philippines, a showcase of Philippine traditions and culture, hosting her own workshop in the Chicago Children's Museum. She has also exhibited her artworks in the Singgalot: Ties That Bind Historical Exhibition, which is a traveling gallery, portraying the history of the the Filipino-American dating back to portraits from the 1800's. The historical exhibition's pieces are courtesy of the Smithsonian Museum.
