The Blackbird Theatre. Where new work is born. Where youth are empowered. And where artists call home.
Ann Arbor's Daredevil Theatre has arrived in its new home in historic Kerrytown. After 12 seasons, the Blackbird has dug in deeper than ever, with its most original and provocative season to date.
This year is our biggest ever. Check out our season, buy tickets , and consider making a tax-deductible contribution to Ann Arbor's fastest-growing arts institution.
We are also the home of the Blackbird Theatre Academy, a free program for local youth. Getting kids onstage and backstage, into positive mentorships and leadership positions. We provide opportunities unlike any other program of this kind.

The Academy
Let's get young people onstage, backstage, and into leadership positions.
When we were starting out, the opportunities were hard to come by. We were young theatre artists willing to sweep the stage and hang up posters. We wanted to give young people the opportunities to work, to hone their craft, and to succeed.
The Blackbird Theatre Academy began in 2008 with a glorious production of Much Ado About Nothing. After receiving a generous grant from the Nine Tuna Foundation, we continued the following year with Twelfth Night. And then we just couldn't get rid of these kids.
Academy members began working backstage and appearing in mainstage productions. They were entering into positive mentorships with the company, and learning all aspects of the business.
This year we found two excellent young arts leaders and put them in charge of the world premiere of What Can You Do With Lincoln's Corpse?, an original comedy by Brooklyn Dimitrie. And in the summer of 2011, we will be mounting Pericles, Prince of Tyre as part of our Shakespeare West summer theatre festival.
We are as passionate about outreach as we are about our art. The Blackbird Theatre's community has expanded to include these excellent young people in all our productions. This program costs nothing for the children or their parents, so we urge you to consider making a donation to this unique program. No other professional theatre in the area has a program quite like it. Visit our donation center now. Click here.
