Olympic selection : Ger and Scott finished 33rd in the gold fleet in Perth... It was just a couple of places short of olympic selection but surely gave them good confidence before the second opportunity in Barcelona in 2012.
NATIONALS 2011: 28 420s and 470s made their journey to Spiddal, co Galway . If some of the front runners of both class opted not to travel, it was surely their mistake as the weather provided some great racing on saturday with 15-17kts from a westerly direction.. Favourites Barry McCartin and Thomas Chaix won all 4 races to retain their title. Diana Kissane and Crew Saskia tidey were close at times, leading the 3rd race until the end of the final beat, but had to settle with 2nd, just ahead of Blessington masters Gerry Ryan and John McArree. The 420s were won by the Dalys sibblings from Tralee.
Pre-Olympics. Ger and Scott have now ended their challenge at the test event in Weymouth. They had a stormy start with two top 10 finishes on day one before fading a little still finishing 18th overall just two places off Ger best olympic finish ( 2004 and 2008). Not a bad start for what is still the beginning of their late campaign.
Junior Europeans 2011: The two Irish teams are racing in Belgium. after 6 races, Rob and Iarlath have missed the cut to gold fleet and will fight to improve their position in silver. The girls dont have that problem racing in a single fleet. They curently lie in 21st.
Master Cup 2011 : Gerry and John finished 35th out of 50 entries in the 8 races series with a 23rd as the highlight of their series.
Junior Worlds : Rob and Iarlath sailed their best but could not climb the fleet and settled with 30th overall out of the 60 entries. Jane and Jenny, for their first event found the going difficult and despite a superb 7th, settled with 27th overall out of 32.
Junior worlds : 3 races in light breeze to put the series at 10. It was a difficult day at the office for the Irish. Both teams dropped places overall. Before the final day, IRL7 lies 26th in the girls and IRL82 30th in the boys.
Junior worlds 2011 : In the girls IRL 7 (Jane and Jenny) is making an entry to the competition scene. The going has been tough so far with a 7th as the highlight of their series so far. IRL 82 (Rob with crew Iarlath) have secured their gold fleet finish after 7 races. their series places them 27th overall and includes three top 10. Having secured the top half position now, they will look forward in the fleet and try to catch up places in the strong U21 field during the two remaining days. keep an eye on results at www.470juniorworlds2011.org
