A Rotta Love Plus (ARLP), a Twin Cities pit bull and Rottweiler rehoming, advocacy, and education organization, is hosting the 4th annual Deviant Art: Dispelling Myths art show in Northeast Minneapolis this coming April 2012.Started in 2009, Deviant Art is a benefit art show put together by Sarah Thornton of Lintu Art to raise awareness and funds for ARLP and its programs. The annual, free event occurs each year in spring. Deviant Art provides an opportunity to experience stunning and unique artwork by both local and national artists, mingle with ARLP volunteers, enjoy food and beverages, as well as learn about and support ARLP. Attendees will also enjoy the company of registered therapy dogs, many of whom were adopted from ARLP.Artists explore theme of “deviant” breeds, beloved canine companions who are often portrayed by the media as menaces. Our goal is to continue to provide an arena for high-qualityartwork to explore the ‘deviant’ dog breeds and create an environment where discussion is encouraged.Your work must have a dog theme; in particular, it should depict or be inspired by pit bulls or Rottweilers. However, any breed that has been characterized by the public as a menace is welcome. Artists seeking inspiration are encouraged to visit A Rotta Love Plus’ website. Past artwork can be viewed on the home page of this (the Deviant Art) website.Featured artwork will be printed on postcards, posters, and featured on our website. The featured artist will have premium wall or floor space for their artwork during the event.There is no fee to apply or show work during the event. The submission requirements are as follows:- Photos must be of dog(s) of deviant breed: pit bull types, Akita, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Chow, and wolf hybrids. The Deviant committee retains the right to exclude photos not relevant to the Deviant dog theme.- Photos can include parts of people (arm wrapped around pooch, human toes next to canine paws, etc.) but not enough of any human such that the human is identifiable.- Electronic entries only; no prints or film accepted.- Limit 5 submissions per entrant.- All entries may be used by ARLP for current and future use on any of ARLP's social media sites and/or website, with full credit given to the photographer.- No lower limit on resolution, but highly pixilated images may be disqualified.- Photographer must be an amateur (defined as never been paid for photography work).- Submitted photos must not be altered other than brightness, contrast, saturation, tint, and cropping.
A photography contest will be held In conjuntion with the Deviant Art show. Amateur photograpers are encouraged to show off their favorite pooch! Three winning photographs will be selected by a panel of professional photographers in blind judging. Prizes will be awarded to the winning photographers, who will also have their photographs displayed at the event.Submit your photos any time between January 15 and March 13, 2012 at 11:59 pm Central time to PhotoContestARLP_gmail.com.
