Alicanto Project
Angelicum Chile, a team formed by aerospace and satellite engineers with experience in national space programs developed in cooperation with international space companies (Surrey, Astrium and others) and global entrepreneurs, announced its official entry into the Google Lunar X PRIZE - a $30 million competition that challenges space professionals and engineers from across the globe to build and launch to the moon a privately funded spacecraft capable of completing a series of exploration and transmission tasks. Team Angelicum Chile, headquartered in the city of Santiago is among 27 teams from 13 countries that are competing for their share of the $30 million prize purse.
Together with other national institutions, we will invite and welcome the participation of professors and students from national and international universities as well as representatives from industry, the business community, technology developers, entrepreneurs, and to all interested people who would like to contribute to the development and success of this challenging project.
This challenging space technology development will require us to search and recognize new related technologies in diverse fields such as robotics, telecommunication, data and image processing, automation and control, and teleprocesses. This endeavour will help us to improve and increase awareness and interest in space exploration across Chile and Latin America. We expect and hope that, through our participation, we will be able to motivate and encourage our citizens and discover new talents, especially in the area of the technology and science.
Angelicum Chile started its activities in Chile since 1998 through special investments of national and global interest. For the Project GLXP, Angelicum initiated an intense effort to congregate professionals in the field of aerospace and satellite engineering. Over the last few months, these professionals have been joined by important national and international entrepreneurs and other specialists in areas such as strategy, planning, international relations, etc.
The team leader for this project in Chile is the Astronautic Engineer (University of Southern California), combat pilot from the Air Force (retired) and commercial pilot Mr. Klaus Von Storch who up to this time has been the only official Chilean candidate to participate in a mission to the International Space Station.

ABOUT THE GOOGLE LUNAR X PRIZE
The $30 million Google Lunar X PRIZE is an unprecedented competition to challenge and inspire engineers and entrepreneurs from around the world to develop low-cost methods of robotic space exploration. To win the Google Lunar X PRIZE, a privately-funded team must successfully place a robot on the Moon’s surface that explores at least 500 meters (1/3 of a mile) and transmits high definition video and images back to Earth. The first team to do so will claim a $20 million Grand Prize, while the second team will earn a $5 million Prize. Teams are also eligible to win a $1 million award for stimulating diversity in the field of space exploration and as much as $4 million in bonus prizes for accomplishing additional technical tasks such as moving ten times as far, surviving the frigid lunar night, or visiting the site of a previous lunar mission. To date, more than 20 teams from a dozen countries around the world have registered to compete for the prize. The Google Lunar X PRIZE is available to be claimed until the end of the year 2015. ABOUT THE X PRIZE FOUNDATION
The X PRIZE Foundation is an educational nonprofit prize institute whose mission is to create radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity. In 2004, the Foundation captured the world’s attention when the Burt Rutan-led team, backed by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, built and flew the world’s first private spaceship to win the $10 million Ansari X PRIZE for suborbital spaceflight. The Foundation has since launched the $10 million Archon X PRIZE for Genomics, the $30 million Google Lunar X PRIZE, and the $10 million Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE. The Foundation and its revolution partner BT Global Services are creating prizes in Exploration (Space and Oceans), Life Sciences, Energy & Environment, Education and Global Development. The Foundation is widely recognized as the leading model for fostering innovation through competition. For more information, please visit www.xprize.org.
