Polar Brokers
Byron King:: 2008
Project Statement
Currently I am working on a series called Polar Brokers in which I take the bio pics of big oil executives and morph images of polar bears into their silhouettes. With the Polar Brokers series I am attempting to try and make myself think of the issues of global warming and big oil in capitalism, daily. Making these portraits I envision the big oil executives one day in the near future looking in the mirror and seeing themselves partially responsible for the extinction of an entire species.
My work uses imagery specific to what Im investigating and will change according to each project. I am concerned with apathy in my life and in our culture and how that affects us on a daily basis. I find it interesting to make work that is iconic and symbolic and at the same time can be perceived many ways. The end goal for me is to attempt to have a conversation about real issues that we all are experiencing personally and politically in order to engage thought and action.
