The 22nd Algonquin College Community Relations Project
Every year the first year public relations class gets together and organizes a community relations project. This year the class has paired up with ICAfrica, an international charity for entrepreneurs in Africa.

Flash mob a success! On Wednesday, Mar. 10, the PR class of 2011 dressed all in black with their new ICAfrica shirts, stopped a crowd in the cafeteria. Congradulations class of 2011!
ELECTRIC ECLECTIC: CHARITY ART AUCTION AND CONCERT
A diverse mash-up of music, poetry, art, and tasty pub morsels, all washed down with a nice cold brew. This event truly has something for everyone with the additional benefit of giving you the chance to flex your charity muscle. Local artists of all genres will be banding together to help foster the entrepreneurial spirit of those worlds away. Your Friday night is set.

ALGONQUIN PR CLASS OF 2011 PRESENTS GIRL GEEK DINNER OTTAWA
Women entrepreneurs and students across Ottawa will get together for a night of food, networking, and a night of awareness. Learn about women entrepreneurs and their battles in the business world, and about women entrepreneurs and their struggles in Africa. The co-owners of Victoire, Katie Frappier and Regine Paquette, will speak at the event.

PUT A STRIKE ON POVERTY
An event suitable for the whole family! The put a strike on poverty bowl-a-thon will be held at McArthur bowling lanes in Vanier. You and four of your friends can enjoy an afternoon of bowling and prizes. Prizes will be awarded for the best themed team, dress up as your favorite characters. Come out and put a strike on poverty.

KEEP THE BALL ROLLING FOR ICAFRICA
Come out for a full day of family fun. You don't need to know how to play ball hockey, just come out and have some fun. Get your friends together and form a team or just come out and cheer on the players. There will also be a barbeque to raise money for ICAfrica. The tournament will be run in a round robin format and prizes will be given to the top three teams.

ICAFRICA: A NIGHT OF AWARENESS
Come out for a night of networking and a silent auction. All proceeds go to ICAfrica. There will be great items to bid on and plenty of successful profesionals to network with. Our guest speaker for the evening will be ICAfrica director, Eugene Nzeribe. Alumni of the Algonquin College alumni will be in attandance as well as CPRS and IABC members. About Algonquin Community Project
From March to April, The first year public relations students at Algonquin College will join ICAfrica for the 22nd annual community relations project featuring several events across the Nations Capital to raise money and awareness for ICAfrica.
Since 2008, ICAfrica has been dedicated to end poverty in sub-saharan Africa by giving small loans to enthusiastic entrepreneurs.
Backgrounder
Founded in 2007, ICAfrica has distributed more than $77,000 to approximately 450 qualified projects, primarily through its Entrepreneurial Assistance for Jobs Creation (EAJC) Program.
Although loans have been approved in several countries across the continent, ICAfrica is currently focusing its efforts in Nigeria and Ghana.
Fact Sheet
The International Charity for Africa was founded by Eugene Nzeribe in 2007.
ICAfricas goal is to fight poverty in the poorest regions of Africa by providing African entrepreneurs with micro- loans in order to create jobs and grow their economies.
70 per cent of people in sub-Saharan Africa live on less than a dollar a day and are in need of the tools necessary to develop the ideas that will help them succeed.
ICAfrica is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that is working to fight poverty through enterprise development.
ICAfrica wants to halve the number of people living below the poverty line by 2015.
ICAfrica is operated by volunteers in order to keep costs low. All contributions go directly to those who need it most.
ICAfrica has distributed more than $77,000 to approximately 450 qualified projects across Africa.
Eugene believes that within 10 years, there would be enough jobs to wipe out extreme poverty if donor nations reached out directly to the grassroots of Africa through NGOs instead of through African governments.
ICAfrica has a 0 per cent interest rate and a hundred per cent payback rate. Most loans are repaid after six months.
The Kamuche Sewing Company is one of the largest projects that was founded with a $3,500 loan from ICAfrica. Within a year, it gave 12 women in Nigeria full-time jobs.
The public relations class will hold numerous events in order to raise awareness about ICAfrica in the Ottawa area.
