Kiel resides in Las Cruces, New Mexico, while attending New Mexico State University where he is finishing up his Hotel, Restaurant, & Tourism degree. In his spare time he has dedicated his life to help, inspire, and become friends with any Diabetic he comes in contact with. Kiel was born in South Bend, Indiana, and was raised for most of his life in Bristol, Indiana. Kiel has an amazing fiance, Erin, as well as an incredible family; father, Thane, mother, Susan, older Brother, Chris, older Sister, Jeni, and younger sister, Ashely, all of whom inspire Kiel to be the best person he can be!
Kiel was diagnosed at the age of two with Diabetes after acquiring chicken pox. The chicken pox had gone throughout the inside and outside of his body causing him to develop pancreatitis. It was during his 2nd birthday that his mother, Susan, who is an R.N., realized that Kiel was presenting signs of Diabetes. Kiel's symptoms included: pain, fatigue, urination every 15-20 minutes, and blurred vision at times. Kiel's mother drove him to the hospital and since that day, Kiel has lived his life fulfilling dreams despite the extra care his Diabetes requires. He aspires everyday to create and fulfill the many dreams, goals, and aspirations he has created for himself.
Diabetes doesn't stop Kiel from extra curricular activities, clubs, and organizations. Some of his interests and achievements include: AAU basketball, Student Merit Award, TKA Award for Student of the Month (3 times), President of Delta Sigma Phi and several awards for his hours of community service work in both Junior Ambassadors and Key Club. Over the past several years, Kiel has given countless speeches concerning Diabetes. Most recently Kiel worked with the Paso Del Norte Health Foundation and created a small diabetic video showing concerns with Diabetes in the state of New Mexico which can be found in two parts on Youtube.com.
Kiel makes sure he lives every day to the fullest and to thrive for success no matter what the outcome may be. In order for all this to happen he has created the acronym, "THEF PEC" that he has written on a piece of paper that is taped to his mirror for him to view every morning. The acronym stands for: Time, Health, Ethics, Family & Friends, Perseverance, Experience, & Commitment. As you read throughout the site and are coached by Kiel, you will understand the relevance and importance of the "THEF PEC" acronym.
