KappaPhiGamma ABOUT US
NATIONAL HISTORYNovember 8, 1998, Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc. became America's first women's Greek-letter organization to promote a South Asian interest. Her roots date back to the Jester basement at the University of Texas at Austin where 27 collegiate women from a myriad of backgrounds collaborated to form what would be the most diverse and strongest Sorority of its kind. The Founders envisioned a Sorority built around 8 principles: Character, Scholarship, Sisterhood, Service, Leadership, Culture, Womanhood, and Self. Realizing the quality of The Sisterhood could never be compromised, the Founders' every endeavor thereafter was directed toward fostering these 8 principles and establishing a solid foundation for the future before embarking on plans for expansion.PURPOSEWe, the sisters of Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc., shall create a sisterhood directed towards the advancement of women. Kappa Phi Gamma aims to instill integrity of character and trust as components of personality. The sorority shall encourage bonding of women in order to strengthen sisterhood. We shall render service to the community and the university, thus supporting the betterment and unification of society. The sisterhood shall develop leadership skills and high academic standards that follow into the professional world. KappaPhiGamma C.A.R.E. WEEK
WHAT IS C.A.R.E. WEEK?C.A.R.E (Cancer Awareness: a Real Effort) is an event Kappa Phi Gama hosts nationally in April, which is national cancer awareness month. Each school where Kappa Phi Gamma is located picks a local or national organization in which they want to donate towards. Once an organization is chosen, all proceeds made during C.A.R.E. Week goes to that specific charity. C.A.R.E. Week is run entirely on sponsorship of local stores, groups, and school funding. Having this week long event funded by outside sources allows us to plan an exciting and fun week. It also ensures the community that the entire amount of money we raise throughout the week is donated straight toward the charity.WHAT WE DOEach day of the week hosts a specific event:*Kick-Off Rally*Candleligh Vigil*Service Day*Mr. C.A.R.E. Week Pageant*PartyWHY WE DO ITAt the first annual sisterhood retreat, our National Founders discovered, that in one way or another, almost all of them had been affected by cancer. They also realized that cancer does not discriminate by race, sex, or class; it can affect anyone. For those reasons, the National Founders chose to devote our philanthropy for cancer awareness.WANT TO GET INVOLVED, GIVE DONATIONS, OR WANT MORE INFORMATION? EMAIL US AT ZETA_KAPPAPHIGAMMA.ORG!
