Concepts of Agriscience Technology : Introduces student to the sciences, technologies, and applied practices of the progressive agriculture/agriscience industry. Emphasis is placed on an active learning environment enriched with technology and science-based application. Concepts is offered on the 9th or 10th grade level and is approved as a Carnegie unit in science.
Science of Agriculture Mechanization : Includes physical science principles and applications related to agriculture such as work and power, electricity and electronics, fluid power, and internal combustion engines. This course is offered to 10th and 11th grade students . Prerequisite: Concepts
Science of Agricultural Plants : Areas include classification, propagation, growth culture, harvesting, and marketing of various crops. It includes instruction in the basic principles of plant science and the use of technology to efficiently and effectively meet consumer needs. This course if offered to 10th or 11th grade students. Prerequisite: Concepts.
The Allied Health program provides the core skills which can be used in a variety of health fields. This program enables students to experience learning in actual and simulated health service environments. The Allied Health program includes introducing students to careers in broad areas of dentistry, medicine, nursing, and related health. Examples are: health care administrators, office workers, dental assistants, dietetics, laboratory technicians, optical therapy, surgical technician, nursing assistant, veterinary assistant, x-ray technology, and other health related personnel. The Allied Health I class counts as one of the lab sciences required for graduation.
Child Care provides students with the basic skills and training for entry-level employment as a child care worker. Through classroom instruction and work in the pre-school setting, child care students receive factual information as well as practical experience with young children. During the first year, the students are taught basic information about the growth, development, discipline, and guidance of preschool children. In the second year, the students will gain on-the-job skills by providing developmentally appropriate learning experiences to kindergarten age children who are located at the local elementary schools.
Career Pathway Experience is a new program that provides the students the opportunity to take knowledge and skills learned in the pathway classroom and to apply and test that learning in the workplace. The CPE course will allow students to explore career options; enhance communication skills, leadership, and problem solving; and contribute to community economic development. CPE is a program for juniors or seniors who have completed 2 years of another Vo-Tech program. Through written CPE arrangements between the school and employers, students receive classroom interaction and on-the-job training or students may participate in a school-based internship which allows the student to return to the vocational program he/she completed in order to enhance their skills and knowledge for that area.
Forestry teaches students the basic skills and training to produce, protect, and manage timber; in the proper use of equipment and machinery; to harvest and transplant trees as a crop; to select, trade, and market forest raw materials for converting into a variety of consumer goods; and to utilize the forest for multiple purposes such as game preserves and recreation. During the first year, students will develop skills in tree identification, tree study, insects and diseases, timber stand improvement, marking timber, marketing, timber harvesting, wildlife management, forest reproduction, fire fighting, and prescribed burning. Second-year students will develop skills in tree identification, forestland location, forest surveying, mapping, tree measurement, plot cruising, and log scaling. This course will include classroom and laboratory instruction.
The Automotive Mechanics program is designed to provide skills in basic engine mechanics. Students receive training in small engines which may include chain saws, lawn mowers, and garden tillers, as well as other lawn and garden equipment. Training in larger engines includes car, truck, and tractor technology. Light welding and oxy-acetylene welding and cutting are also a part of this program. Upon completion of this 2-year, 2-hour per day program, the student may seek entry-level employment as a small engine technician, auto technician, welder, or maintenance person. Post-secondary programs are available in diesel and advanced mechanics.
Business and Computer Technology provides students with basic skills and training in practical office management and operation. The first year objectives cover safety, operating systems, keyboarding, word processing, communications, alphabetic filing systems, database management, financial applications, spreadsheet applications, telecommunications, desktop publishing, and the job application process. The second year objectives cover safety, advanced keyboarding, word processing, communications, database management, spreadsheet applications, financial applications, telecommunications, desktop publishing, automated accounting, networking, and the job application process.
