1611-2011
In 2004, the church families were convicted of God, that to raise their children according to the Bible, they need to have a school that from the curriculum to the teachers was Bible-first. Nausori Baptist Christian Academy was started by faith for the sake of our children. The entire staff volunteered their first year to see the school off the ground. There were many sacrifices, but the blessings followed close behind.
For many years, the church had prayed for a proper building for the church and school. But the priority had always been missions. The church believed that if they continued to give sacrificially to missions, God would one day provide them a building of their own. The church had even emptied its building fund on two occasions to give to missions! In mid-2006, Pastor Mears approached the landowners of buildings in the town that had been vacant for some time. After negotiations, the church was able to move into these run-down buildings for only $1000/mo! The church renovated the buildings and occupies them until today.
In addition to these two wonderful buildings, the church was also able to lease the former Nausori Courthouse which is adjacent to the school buildings. This is the church's current location and is quickly outgrowing the hall.
Nausori Baptist Church has a vision to fulfill the Great Commission and we hope you will view the mission program. If you live in the Suva-Nausori corridor, please come and visit us for one of our church services.
Nausori Baptist Church began as a mission work in February of 1997. Our pastor, Kory Mears, was sent out of Apple Valley Baptist Church, Wenatchee, WA USA in June of 1995. He had spent the previous year and a half working with Pastor Save Sikele of Victory Baptist Church, Suva, Fiji. He and three other young men began visiting the homes around the town of Nausori, which is the intersection of three provinces.
After a couple of weeks of visiting, they began holding bible studies in the living room of one of the families with another fellow missionary, Richard Miller.
The Bible study group began to grow and within a short time the small living room wasnt big enough for the people who were attending. Pastor Mears met a real estate agent who introduced him to the oldest colonial building in the town. It was a rundown building with rotting floors, leaking roof and sinking floor posts. However, it became the home of Nausori Baptist Church for the next nine years.
It was in this building that our people were trained in the fundamental doctrines of the Bible and grew as a church family.
