Independent study: is offered to students their senior year who have completed a sequence in art and wish to further enrich their understanding, skills and portfolio. Students formulate their own projects, and manage their time effectively while keeping in close contact with the instructor. Short and long term goals are established. Students are encouraged to use this course to enhance and prepare their portfolio for college enterance.
Clay II: is the second level offered in the experience of hand building in clay. Students take previously taught knowledge in clay construction to a more in depth level. This course develops an understanding of molding, modeling, relief work, tile building, and a greater study of sculptural and functional ware.
Advanced Clay: is the esteemed clay sculpture offering. Students at this level gain independence and further their unique styles and expression. The students continue to build 'portfolio quality' three dimensional forms, with a firm understanding of form, balance, texture, harmony, repetition, variation, and composition. Students are encouraged to 'think outside the box' and exhibit their own personalities in the sculptures they construct. Students continue to devise a portfolio which will be highlighted in various shows.
Modified Clay: is a course specifically designed to allow Special Education students the opportunity to creatively express themselves, as well as interact with their peers. All children innately want to create and express. Hands on art activities allow a whole new spectrum of expression for anyone, including the special needs child. Often those with oral, tactile, visual or motor challenges can express themselves beautifully through art.
