My History
I’m originally from New England. I currently reside in Las Vegas, NV. Testing my creativity levels, resourcefulness, and artistic problem solving became an early obsession of mine. I eagerly welcome challenges, and I often push myself out of my comfort zone...It tends to force me to learn new things, and i’ve found that I discover a lot about my artistic style, and abilities along the way. I am definitely one of those people who feel that my day was wasted if I didn’t learn something new.
With my love for color and texture, and my endless desire to make something physical out of the ideas I come up with, Art seemed to be the natural path for me. I also dabble with Photography because Light is one of the most beautiful, natural things in existence, and the ability to preserve it in a well-captured photo is truly a grand achievement. I have spent time experimenting in other avenues of the artistic world as well. I did several years of Set, Costume, and Hair/Make-Up Design for Theater in high school and college. I am also a great fan of music. I Sing, Dance, and play 2 instruments (not too well).
My Inspiration
My inspiration comes from gathering various discarded scraps of everyday life and subtle human emotions. I try to view them from uncommon perspectives. For example: The mind of a child is astonishing. Adults don’t give children enough credit for how remarkable they are. Some of the greatest, most seriously life changing things I’ve ever learned have come from the simple insights of children. They have a way of seeing things for what they are. While our adult minds are spoiled by opinion, and weighed down by experience, the early mind of a child is free. A 5 year old once asked me, “Why do they make books with all words, instead of all pictures, when we are just gonna make pictures in our heads anyway?” That was the original inspiration for my Ink Eyes Series.
My Materials
I experiment with multi-media and unconventional techniques, so I work with a lot of recyclables and other discarded items. I’ve always had a fascination with ordinary items in surplus. One black colored cover to a can of hairspray is trash, but 10,000 of them, arranged into interesting towers, garnished with scrap metal, in a room flooded with a foot of purple water is art.
