2010 Trip to Israel
With six other colleagues, I will return to Israel this January as part of a coalition from US colleges and universities. Our mission is to identify ways to be of assistance to the universities in this region during this challenging time in Israel's history.
Letters from Israel
Click here to read the Letters from Israel. These letters were written for the Mount community during a 2008 sabbatical trip to Israel. During a three-month stay at Tantur, the magnificance and struggle of this part of the world captured me in fascinating ways. While my research was to focus exclusively on the spiritual care of women suffering from the impact of intergenerational trauma, this country's political, social, religious and historical dynamics challenge on every level of consciousness. No doubt, life changing, the time in Israel became a sojourn on every level.
Athenaeum Chorale
Sacred music inspires soulful expressions of prayer and musical excellence. Chorale annual activities include Lessons & Carols, Spring Concert and monthly vesper services.
In addition to the Chorale, I sang for all three of the Sisters in Song recordings in the 1990's to raise retirement funds for women religious in the US. "A select choir of religious women from communities across the United States sing classical choral works, American spirituals, contemporary hymnody and Hispanic music." All three of the recordings are available on-line from OCP.
Institute offerings will focus on the practice of pastoral care.
Pastoral Care and Women
Tuesday, June 22, 2010
This lecture will explore pastoral care of women as a significant aspect of women's religious experience. Contemporary care of women in spiritual and pastoral care is radically different than in generations past, informed and impacted by psychology, spirituality, and the full inclusion of women in society.
RESEARCH
Sr. Marge is an associate professor of religious and pastoral studies and dean of the division of arts and humanities at the College of Mount St. Joseph. Having served for 30 years in ministry, pursuing interests in spirituality, cross-cultural dialogue and spiritual care, and pastoral care in suffering, Sr. Marge has lived in New Mexico, Colorado and Ohio. As a professor, Sr. Marge has taught courses in undergraduate and graduate degree programs as well as lay ministry development programs. In 2008, she served as a scholar in residence at Tantur in Israel during which she studied the benefits of spirituality for women suffering the effects of intergenerational trauma. Primarily engaged with Palestinian Christian women and a comprehensive study of the region, the three-month immersion in Middle Eastern perspective has been transformative. As a retreat and conference presenter, Sr. Marge leads reflections in desert spirituality, contemporary ministry, spirituality and suffering, and women’s spirituality.
