ABOUT

Neil MacPherson began studying piano at the age of 7 in Denver, CO. He became a professional musician at 13, and by 18 he had toured Europe, Canada and the US. He continued his education at University of Northern Colorado where he majored in Piano Performance and was active in the jazz and rock scene. Moving to Los Angeles upon graduation, Neil enrolled in the UCLA Extensions program where he studied song writing and music business from industry professionals. In 2000, he moved to San Diego and founded the band TUBBY, a group that has won numerous accolades across the country. They won the Worldfolk National Battle of the Bands in Las Vegas, NV in early 2006 and were one of the top 8 finalists on NBCs Star Tomorrow program. Relocating to northern California in 2008, Neil has been busy promoting his album of solo piano works entitled Solace. In various projects, he has appeared onstage with Bobby McFerrin, Marc Ford (Black Crowes, Allman Brothers), John Popper(Blues Traveler), America and DJ Bonebrake(X). He has opened for Blue Oyster Cult, Common Sense, Fishbone, Joan Jett and Jason Bonham, among others. He currently resides in the Bay Area.

About

Released in February of 2008, Solace is the first solo recording from pianist Neil MacPherson. For over 20 years, Neil has been performing across the country and around the world on both acoustic piano and Hammond B3 organ, always as part of a band. This release marks a deeply personal journey into his craft. The results span the emotional spectrum from haunting to joyous, and make for a rewarding listening experience. Neil has studied piano and songwriting at the University of Northern Colorado and University of California Los Angeles. He has appeared onstage with Bobby McFerrin, Marc Ford, America and John Popper, among others.

The Riders with America : We had the pleasure of playing onstage with the band America at Humphreys Amphitheatre in 2010. They brought us back up for "Horse With No Name" - very cool guys...

The Journeymen Live in San Diego : A band started with Bill Ray (Ike Turner) where I composed music to drum tracks he had recorded 420 miles away in San Diego. We hired Mike Clairmont and Sean Martin to perform some of the parts live.

Kentucky Blizzard: A tune off of Solace, my first solo album. This was the first one I completed, and the one that motivated me to do the album.

Forever by The Journeymen: In 2008, drummer Bill Ray (formerly of Ike Turner's band) sent me some recordings of him messing around in a studio. I took this one and composed a tune over it. We both enjoyed the result so much we did a whole album in the same manner. The project is called Dog Days and is available on itunes

You Make All Things New by Cede: In 2008, I was hired as music director for the Bay Area CCM/Gospel band Cede. This is a tune I arranged and played on off of our debut album, New Beginnings which is now #1 in the Western US.

Nightwatch by The Journeymen: One of my favorite tunes off of my album with Ike Turner drummer Bill Ray. All sounds are from a Yamaha Motif except for Bill's drums.
