A community wide event sponsored by Ponte Vedra United Methodist Church"Giving some time from our holiday season to help those in need, make some new friends, and look outside of ourselves."

Same Schedule as Saturday. Projects will be a food handout to the homeless in Jacksonville. We will be placing cards on worship seats to signify the people who are missing worship to do mission work (exemplifying Salty Service!)

About This

Why in December?

During the school year, our youth and families are bombarded by deadlines, grades, exams, sports, homework, jobs...Over the winter break, especially when school is out, is a perfect time to focus on others! Also, in a season when so much of our time is focused on ourselves, it is a great time to turn our focus outward! Won't you join us?

How did this idea happen?In 2008, the high school youth from PVUMC journeyed to San Fransisco, CA to take part in a mission week. While there, they took part in a poverty exercise that challenged them to think ourside of the box in terms of their response to people in need. In conversations that followed, the students came up with thie idea of an "off season" mission blitz in our area. A 3 day experience that would make it possible for people of all ages to come together and do mission work in a variety of ways in their local area!

Why is Mission Blitz Important? "It is important because it allows you to make a difference in the local community where you can see the positive consequences of it. And it means a lot to me because everyone hears about the homeless in major cities, and the help needed abroad, but it helps to open my eyes to the fact that just in our city of Jacksonville there is still an immense amount of help needed" Senior, PVHS_______________________________________________________________________________________________________"It is important because we are serving our community and reaching out to our fellow neighbors, doing various types of mission work. And showing those that we love mission work and we are wiling to give some of our break to do so. St Augustine

As close as we are in proximity to St Aug, we are worlds away. A beautiful city with a rich history and stunning architecture, St Augustine has much to offer tourists and locals alike. But all you have to do is look around and you will witness the staggering poverty that also weaves itself into the city's history.

Children's Party

On Monday afternoon the children will gather at 1PM to go caroling. When they return to the church at 3PM, they will participate in a children's party! They will have an opportunity to decorate cookies with Mrs Claus, ride some Reindeer, stuff stockings with the elves, and participate in a scavenger hunt to crafts and a mystery guest! The festivities will be over by 5PM!

Dignity-u-wear

An organization in downtown Jacksonville, Dignity-U-Wear is an organization that works with clothing manufacturers to get brand new clothing to people who otherwise would have none. As an organization it is affiliated with 36 states, and ships clothing orders to various companies in those states. On Monday morning we will help them to sort their latest collections!

Yard workWe will need some people who love yard work! We will also need your tools :) Meet us at the church at 9AM on saturday and sunday and helkp us clean yards for some people who can't do it for themselves!
ConstructionWe will be working on some odd jobs and small projects for community members, as well as helping to convert an old medical center into an after school program facility
Worship and dinnerEven if you can't come during the day, come out for dinner and worship in the evening! Dinner is served at 6PM and worship will beging at 7PM!
