Keizer Art Association is organized to encourage the creation, understanding, and appreciation of arts in the community; to gather
together objects of art for display and interpretation, and to have as a final goal, the participation of all members of the community as a
part of the total art education process.
Our Gallery hours are:
Thursday and Friday from 1PM to 4PM and
Saturday from 10AM to 4PM.
Our History
Keizer Art Association has been in existence since 1977. The three founding members were Don Walton, Marge Browder and Enid Joy
Mount. The Associaiton operated out of many locations in Keizer before finding a permanent home here at the Keizer Heritage Building.
Enid Joy Mount was very determined that children have a chance to experience and create art. She helped them find clay in the natural
environment (located under horsetail plants) and then make objects they could wood-fire with her help.
Thanks to the generosity of the community and Enid Joy Mount's family, our Gallery continues to have monthly shows featuring local
artists and others from Oregon and beyond.
Our Board of Directors
In order to be on the board, you must also be a member of the Keizer Art Association. You can download the membership
application on our 'Forms' page. Click the link to read our BYLAWS.
Board members represent the members of Keizer Art Association and are responsible for making decisions about the business end
of the organization, the shows hosted at Mount Gallery, the members gallery, retail GalleryK operations and classroom activities.
Our 2009-2010 Board of Directors are:
Robert Selby, President (Operations Council Chair)
Robert earned an Associate of Arts in Business Administration from Clark College in Vancouver, Washington, a Bachelor of Science in Art
& Letters/Graphic Design at Portland State University and a Master of Fine Arts in Advertising Design at Syracuse University. He has forty
years experience in the communications industry. He also served as an Associate Professor and Chair of the Design Arts Department at
Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland.
Robert is an innovator in the area of fused glass. "Design and preparation of the glass requires careful planning. Yet the element of surprise
is always present when the process of firing begins. It is all very exciting to me, but the real magic comes when light bursts through the
finished glass."
Linda Jacobson, Vice President (Show Council Chair)
Linda spent her career with the US Postal Service where she held various executive positions in Oregon, Ohio, Missouri and Tennessee.
In 2006, she retired and returned to her native state of Oregon. Since that time, she has actively pursued textile and mixed media arts.
She has won several awards for her work, has it in two galleries and does various juried art venues throughout the year. Her work can be
identified by her signature fabric tucks which are turned by applying fibers in a process known as couching. She also adds embellishments
in leather, beading and stone. Linda is active as a member of Keizer Art Association and Artists in Action and is a volunteer for several
non-profit organizations.
Christine Dieker, Treasurer (Budget Council Chair)
Carol Harris, Secretary (Education Council Chair)
Carol Harris was born in Baker City, went to OSU and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education and Art, a Master's Degree in Education
at WOU and settled in Salem to teach elementary school for 31 years. Married to Keith for 37 years they live in the country west of Salem
where they were cherry farmers and now grow hay for horses. They have a daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Adam and grandson Ben.
Interests are art, 4-H, and traveling. She has been a KAA board member for 5 years as Secretary and Education Chair.
William Bragg, Director (Co-Chair, Mayor's Invitational Committee)
I am the Associate Director of the Willamette Academy. Willamette Academy is a five-year college access program for intelligent, talented
and creative students from low income, less formally educated families. Each year we receive 120 nominations from the Salem/Keizer school
district of potential seventh graders of which we can only select 28 students. The ultimate goal of Willamette Academy is for the students to
attend college.
I am also a photographer. Currently my work is showing at Venti's & the Coffee House Cafe in Salem. I was commissioned by the Hallie Ford
museum as part of an installation of Dan May's art work. I do both non-profit and commercial photographic work as well.
And I'm the publisher of The Salem Project, the third volume ofwhich was released in April. The Salem Project is a new local publication
celebrating and highlighting local artists.
Miriam Selby, Director (Communications Council Chair)
Miriam Grace Selby is a collage artist living on a hilltop outside Dallas, Oregon. Enamored with papers, she sees the infinite possibilities in their patterns, textures, colors, shapes and layers. And is most satisfied seeing them evolve in relationship during the design process.
Her work is award-winning and is accepted in juried shows. She recently received second place at the 2009 Oregon State Fair Art Annual for her piece, Listening to the Universe. Three of her collage art pieces were purchased by the Salem Health foundation for their new Patient Tower wing and were among those honored at the opening of the tower earlier this past spring.
She has taught college, run political campaigns, worked for a transit agency, and worked for city government. As an entrepreneur, she founded a computer database firm and, most recently, was a book publisher, publishing books about womens issues. She brings a background of marketing and is enthusiastic about being KAA's newsletter editor and communications chair.
