Merry Christmas from Bishop Isaac King, Jr. and Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ!
Pentecostal Temple COGIC
Bishop Isaac King, Jr. was born in Glendora, Mississippi, to parents Deacon Isaac and Mother Gertrude King, Sr. The King Family moved to Detroit, Michigan when he was four years old. They attended the “Mother Church” Livingston Street and he later became a member of Bailey Temple Church of God in Christ. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of fourteen. Five years later, he was called to the ministry. He received his ministerial license and was later ordained an elder. At the age of 29, he was appointed Pastor of Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ in Inkster, Michigan. February 14, 2010 marked 50 years of dedicated pastoral service to the Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ. In addition to 50 years of pastoral service at Pentecostal Temple, he also served 18 years as the pastor of Greater Northwest Church of God in Christ. Many homes and marriages have been reconciled through the prayer and counseling ministries of these churches. The homeless have been housed, clothed and fed through the outreach programs.
Bishop King's desire to provide a platform where local churches could flourish and pastors would be free to minister, served as the catalyst for the establishment of the Southwest Michigan Agape Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction in 2001. The jurisdiction provides a forum where pastors can develop their leadership, financial and pastoral skills, thereby perpetuating the work of the ministry.
As part of his vision, he founded Inkster Christian Academy in 1979, serving grades K-12. In 1990, Bishop King organized the Pentecostal Temple Day Care Center. Later that year, a building was erected to house the Academy and Day Care at a cost of $2.5 million. In 1997, Bishop King secured a charter, in partnership with the Inkster Board of Education, to operate King Academy, a K-6 public charter school. He founded Alpha-Omega Education Management, a company providing professional education services for charter schools. In 1999, under the leading of the Holy Spirit, Bishop King led the congregration of Pentecostal Temple into its current worship facility. The property sits on over 20 acres of land and houses the sanctuary, fellowship hall dining facilities, class rooms and administrative offices.
Bishop King received his formal education in Detroit, Michigan, graduating from Central High School. He also attended Highland Park Community College and the Detroit Bible College. An honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree was conferred on Bishop King from Shreveport Bible College.
Bishop King has served in numerous community and civic capacities: Inkster Ministerial Alliance (Past President), Inkster Rehabilitation Review Board, Inkster Police Chaplain, Save African American Boys (Board of Directors) and the Bishop G. D. Moore Apartment Complex (Board President). He has also received many awards for meritorious service from the Cities of Inkster and Detroit, the County of Wayne and the State of Michigan, including a street named after him and his wife (Isaac Margaret King Drive). He is a lifetime member of the NAACP.
Bishop King has been married to Margaret Jewel Gordy King for over 56 years. They are proud of their three children: Karen, Kyra, and Kevin. They also have 14 grandchildren.
