Surface Design and Illustration
Copyright © Katy Rose Thorogood 2010
Inspired by the notion of using memory as visual language, Katy Rose uses illustration as a form of storytelling. Whether they are
to represent memories of a past experience, or as learning tools
to communicate visually, her drawings highlight how these
themes can 'invade' everyday life and the objects around us.
Whilst always regarding the 'hand-drawn' as the most important feature of her work, Katy Rose's art practice makes the two dimensional three dimensional. By transferring illustration onto everyday, overlooked objects it brings new life and a new story
to the surface.
The resulting surface designs provide an atmosphere from
which the viewer can interpret or project their own thoughts
and feelings, about home and nostalgia. This form of emotive interactivity invites the viewer to immerse themselves into the scene, thereby making the object accessible.
