living with Hidradenitis Suppuratvia
To start off, my name is Brittany and i designed this page to show everyone what i battle with everyday. i have a disease that itself has many names, one of the common names are hidradenitis suppurativa or (HS).
HS defined by the mayo clinic is a chronic skin inflammation marked by the presence of blackheads and one or more red, tender bumps (lesions). The lesions often enlarge, break open and drain pus. Scarring may result after several recurrences. Considered a severe form of acne (acne inversa), hidradenitis suppurativa occurs deep in the skin around oil (sebaceous) glands and hair follicles. The parts of the body affected — the groin and armpits, for example — are also the main locations of apocrine sweat glands.
Hidradenitis suppurativa tends to start after puberty, persist for years and worsen over time. Early diagnosis and treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa can help manage the symptoms and prevent new lesions from developing.

My Story
Since being diagnoised in 2007, i have tried all types of treatments, from antibiotics to herbal treatments, and even recently to laser therepy. however since august 2009, i have a 1 surgery to remove the affected tissue and sweat glands from my groin area and between my breasts. and am currently scheduled for surgery again to remove the affected areas from my buttocks. i dont know what the future holds for me, because as far as i know, my disease continues to progress, getting worse and worse every day. like my title says, i would never wish such a painful disease on anyone. losing your self confidence is probably the worst thing anyone can suffer from.
Hi, im Brittany and im 20 years old and have been fighting with HS since i hit puberty around 12 or 13 years old. Living with this disease has caused me to lose out on alot of opportunities, and the biggest of all, my career goals. why you say would i have give up on my biggest goal. well because being a police officer would be extremely hard and hurtfull with this disease. some days i feel great and happy, and others i feel extreme pain and feel like giving up. it all comes down to if i give up then im letting the HS win. something i never want to happen.
