Railroad
This website is for Professor Anne Spirn's "4.215J/11.309J: Sensing Place: Photographing the Urban Landscape" course at MIT.
Each student selects a physical site and photographs it throughout the semester, focusing on light, significant detail, and poetics. At the end of the semester, we develop a photo essay that pairs photographs with text to tell the story of our site.
My site consists of the railroad tracks, laboratories, and old warehouses on MIT's northwest campus. It is between Albany St., Vassar St., Pacific St. and Massachusetts Avenue. The striking industrial landscape surrounded by university and residential uses has always intrigued me, especially when trains still regularly use the tracks. I am interested in the contrasts and colors of this beautiful industrial setting.
