Just Flip It is an initiative to get people to start saving energy by just replacing the incandescent light bulbs they currently use to compact fluorescent light bulbs. Our initiative informs people about the advantages and the saving what will occur when a person chances from incandescent to compact fluorescent.
Sawnee EMC provides its electrical consumers with a $20 rebate check for replacing a minimum of 10 incandescent light bulbs in their homes or businesses. They are encouraged to replace as many as possible, but there is not a monetary incentive greater than the initial $20.
Florida Power & Light has created a program to give residential customers one free energy efficient light bulb. Every business has the potential to receive two free bulbs. The idea behind this is to have the consumers and business to complete an online survey to qualify for this free program. The idea behind this is to provide FPL customers information on how they can become more efficient and use power more wisely. They anticipate this will result in 50,000 bulbs being distributed.
Utility cooperatives in Texas have teamed up with Home Depot & Costco to offer energy efficient light bulbs at discount prices. This program is expected to replace more than 1.5 million incandescent bulbs by the end of 2008.
The Results from our focus group were: Most of our participants did not know the savings that a compact flourescent has and that more information was required for them to make the switch. The reason why most people do not invest in compact flourescent is because of the high up front cost. They said that they would invest in compact flourescent to save money if some kind of rebate was included to make up for the up front cost
- Our initiative will promote energy efficient light bulbs by forming partnerships with retail distributors. - Local hardware stores, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Lowes, Target, Menards, etc. - Vouchers with a bar code would be sent out in the mail with the electricity bill. - In order to attain free bulb, the customer would be required to bring in old bulb to exchange. - This would help to ensure that the new one would be installed - not just placed on the shelf. - Retailer would scan voucher, take old bulb, and then give customer the new one. - Service Concepts would have access to the database showing the consumers who had or had not taken advantage of the free energy efficiency light bulb offer. - SC could take further marketing action to inform those who had not participated about energy efficiency. - Provides incentive for the stores as supporting such a program could increase the traffic inside of their businesses. People might find other items they wish to purchase.
The JFI Initiative will partner with retail stores to allow customers of SC one free energy efficient light bulb.
