Biography

Jonathan Lee Smith, guitarist, is an active musician in the central Florida area who has an emphasis in classical, jazz, and rock styles. Jonathan received highly commended for the Stetson University concerto competition in the fall of 2010. While classical guitar is his main focus and established degree, Jonathan actively performs with solo guitar, a guitar duo, a flute and guitar duo, and with local hit rock band, Run Rhino. As lead guitarist for Run Rhino, Jon works as a manager to help the band progress with national performances, group songwriting, and future career goals. Run Rhino has been featured as an opening band for Hippiefest (2 years in a row) in Daytona Beach, FL; The American Music Festival in Daytona Beach, FL opening for Lifehouse; and has been featured at top music venues in central Florida such as the Plaza Theatre, Backbooth, and the Social. Under the study of Dr. Stephen Robinson, Jonathan has performed in master classes with Bruce Holzman, Ron Borczon, the Amadeus Duo and the Brazil Guitar Duo. Jonathan recently finished his bachelors degree of guitar performance at Stetson University with a repertoire of works ranging from Django Reinhardt, to Castelnuovo-Tedesco, J.S. Bach, jazz standards and many self-composed works, solo and with Run Rhino. Jonathan is now practicing his profession for the next year with teaching, composing, recording, and performances and then will be returning back to school to receive his masters and doctorate in music. Philip Logan and Jonathan Smith met in the fall of 2007 for their first semester at Stetson University. Both pursuing a degree in guitar performance, they formed a guitar duo now called Strings Attached. Their combined styles have created a strong mix of classical, rock, and jazz influences incorporating well-structured musical form along with sophisticated improvisation. Graduated from Stetson University with Bachelors of Music, both Philip and Jonathan are continuing their careeers as guitar teachers, life performers and studio musicians.
Since forming the Galestro-Smith duo in early 2010 as classically trained musicians at Stetson University, flutist Angela Galestro and guitarist Jonathan Smith have delighted audiences across Central Florida. Both highly accomplished artists, the duo offer a diverse repertoire of Classical, Jazz, Latin American and popular music.Distinguished for their seasoned professionalism and sensitive musicianship, the Galestro-Smith Duo will shape their repertoire to suit ones personal taste and requirements and are available for special events from weddings and garden parties to corporate and restaurant functions.

JONATHAN LEE SMITH PERFORMS SENIOR GUITAR RECITAL AT STETSON UNIVERSITYApril 17, 2011DeLand, FL Stetson University Music School will present the senior classical guitar recital of Jonathan Lee Smith on Sunday evening, April 17, 2011 at 8:00PM. The performance will be held in the Douglas Lee Chapel of Elizabeth Hall located between Michigan and Minnesota Avenue on Woodland Boulevard near the north side of downtown DeLand. Admission is free.Jonathan will be performing an hour long classical recital covering a range of works from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary eras. Included will be Nuages by the pioneering virtuoso jazz guitarist/composer Django Reinhardt; Hungarian Fantasy by 19th Century composer, Johann Kaspar Mertz; Invocacion y danza (1961) by Joaquín Rodrigo; the famous Chaconne from Partita No. 2 by J.S. Bach; and Concerto for guitar by one of the foremost guitar composers in the twentieth century, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, accompanied by pianist Edit Palmer. A diverse musician with an interest in all styles of guitar, Jonathan Smith received the Highly Commended distinction for his performance in the 2010 Stetson University Concerto Competition. He actively performs in a guitar duo, Strings Attached; a guitar and flute duo with Angela Galestro, the Stetson Jazz Ensemble and Combo, and as lead guitarist with local hit rock band, Run Rhino.Jonathans April concert is one of the final requirements in fulfillment of the Bachelor of Music degree, guitar performance.
