The idea for The ROC House was conceived by Yoni Glatt and Rabbi Moshe Grussgott in the fall of 2008. The two men, who have been friends since childhood, were sitting in the social hall of Congregation Ramath
Orah one Shabbos (where Rabbi Grussgott is Associate Rabbi), and realized that the room had a great deal of potential. With no Jewish music venues in Manhattan, and a neighborhood full of Jewish singles and
Columbia University students, they saw that a venue exclusively for Jewish music had a great deal of potential. After purchasing a stage, sound system, microphones, and drum set, the ROC House officially came into existence.
Operating from November through March, The ROC House now hosts some of the biggest names in Jewish
music such as Soulfarm, Blue Fringe, Yaakov Chesed, Chaim Dovid, and Yosef Karduner. The ROC House is also a venue to see some of the best up and coming Jewish artists. In fact, creating a venue where new bands could play their music along side some of the more seasoned names in Jewish music was part of the
inspiration for creating The ROC House. The ROC House is an intimate concert venue, and the perfect
place to have a cold beer and hear Jewish music on a Saturday night, either with friends or a date (and it's a great place to make potential new friends or dates as well :)
