Recently coming to the large public attention with his "fantastic display of a virtuoso technique that few in the world could match" (Piano World Forum) and "mind blowing, heart stopping and pushing to the extreme limits of human body " (France2) Prokofiev performances , Jozef Kapustka was born in Poland in 1969 and began his musical studies at the age of 3. Meeting Sviatoslav Richter shortly thereafter has set his vocation eversince. Upon graduating from the New York Juilliard School in 1992 with a straight A record he has completed a Postgraduate Advanced Studies diploma specialising in piano performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London , having worked subsequently with Dmitri Baskirov in Madrid and Vera Gornostaeva in Moscow . He eventually settled down to live in Paris. Very early Kapustka started to appear in some of the world class premises such as New York Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Museum, United Nations, Carnegie Hall ("magical, amazing experience" as seen in "The New York Times"),United Nations on invitation from the Russian Federation permanent mission and has been featured on Voice of America International and New York classical radio WQXR live radio broadcasts ( "one of the most interesting radio programmings on the air"-New York Village Voice). Furthermore he has been featured on France Musique Classique and Europe1 broadcasts. A winner of 1991 New York Artists International Competition he has performed in almost every European country including the Russian Federation ; United States,South America and the near East. Seen in the press: ("what a talent! a true juke-box! ask the piece,he plays it"- Depeche du midi, "close to delirious" - Figaro, "great pianist keen on introspection, obsessed technician" - B.Hauptmann in Nurnberger Zeitung, " a particularly beautiful concert" - Christine Berbudeau for Radio France International ). A highly respected American critic and writer,David Dubal ("Remembering Horowitz") has once called Kapustka a " great pianist who loves his art", leading American authority on Liszt playing Jerome Lowenthal "an excellent and very interesting artist" , Josef Raieff ( last pupil of Alexander Siloti who on his turn was Liszt student) " a man with million dollar hands", pianists Gyorgy Sandor and Oxana Yablonskaya respectively " true musical talent of an extraordinary potential " and " a very exciting and fully committed individual" . His solo or joint performances are unvariably and unanimously met by public and critical acclaim, as seen recently: "...a high voltage stuntman, inspired and talentuous" ,"highly entertaining playing" 20 minutes Europe,"...extraordinary talent"- Virginie Lemoine with Olivier Bellamy on France's Musique Classique radio. Valentine Smith of The Stratford Herald has hailed his "masterful rendering [of the Liszt piano concerto No.2 with the Leamington Sinfonia conducted by Jenny Barrie]" and his all-Chopin recital for the 2010 Chopin Year celebrations in France was a "cultural event of the year" : " a man, his piano and the magic begins" (Ouest-France) . Nominated for the most prestigious French theater award Molière 2010 of the best musical play ("Diva of Sarcelles" written and directed by Virginie Lemoine, with Brigitte Faure, Marie Chevalot, Smail Mekki)Passionnate traveller and never tired of reaching a new public, he has set foot so far in such places like Tahiti, Hawaii, Spitsbergen, ancient Roman theaters in Col. Qaddafi's Libya...In 2010 Jozef Kapustka has spent several months in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, working with the favela youth string orchestra Orquestra de Cordas da Grota conducted by Ubiratan Rodrigues. Coaching sessions on a location in the Grota favela lasted from November 2010 to January 2011 and were particularly dramatic: during this period, as widely covered by the media reports worldwide , special police units (BOPE) , Policia Pacificadora, army and marine have launched a massive military operation on Rio de Janeiro favelas in what was later described as the worst drug bust related violence in a recent history and which ultimately claimed more than 100 lives. The " Bach in Rio" project resulted in series of performances and recordings of selected Bach keyboard concerti including in some of the prestigious central Rio venues ( Centro Cultural Justica Federal). The project " Bach in Rio" has also been a subject of British documentary feature by Martin Voll (Otherwise Records, London 2010)for complete information go to :www.jozefkapustka.net

Don,Réflets,Rivieres...with Mariola Odzimkowska, Mélodie Richard, Pierre Francois Garel, Martin Maugeais, Arthur Coulet and Jozef Kapustkawatch (1): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5LFvP1l45Iwatch (2): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xF4f-0pPxDU&list=UUJ_0vYVlN-A special reading of poems by French artists accompanied by a piano performance and film, followed by the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 1980 Nobel prize laureate and his poetry, illustrated by commentaries of his peers and includes rare photographsThe programme starts with "Don, Reflets, Rivières..." / "Gift, Reflexions, Rivers...", a multimedia event combining a poetry reading, video and piano recital, revolving around the principal themes of the writer's work: the human condition, totalitarianism, exile, the mission of the poet towards the world, and the connection between nature and the city. The performance features a selection of Miłosz's texts read in French by actors Mélodie Richard and Pierre-François Garel, accompanied by rare compositions of Karol Szymanowski ("Opus 33"), Galina Ustovlskaya ("Sonata n°6") and Morton Feldman ("Triadic Memories") played by Jozef Kapustka, and video pieces by Martin Maugeais and Arthur Coulet. The concept of the event was created by Danièle Chauvin and Mariola Odzimowska. The film was conceived in a close relationship with the poems selection. The images echo Milosz' poetry as read by the actors. They are also reacting in real-time to the pianist's performance, mirroring the relationship once existing between the musician and the silent movie he used to play along to.Later that night, the venue inaugurates the exhibition "Czesław Miłosz: Prix Nobel de Littérature 1980"/ "1980 Literature Nobel Prize laureate". Divided into 13 sets, it displays poems translated in French along with photographs, the writer's biography and commentary of his peers about the legacy of his work. The curator of the exhibition, Jolanta Pol from the Museum of Literature in Warsaw, selected rare photographs of Miłosz taken by Maciej Billewicz in 1981, during the writer's first visit in Poland after 30 years of exile. The artist documented the whole trip, following Miłosz to official appearances, as well as more intimate meetings with family and friends. In parallel to the selection of photographs illustrating the writer's comeback to his motherland on both public and private sides, the set presents notes by Josif Brodsky, Seamus Heaney, Tomas Venclova and Witold Gombrowicz. His friends and correspondents comment on Milosz's persona and his work, its legacy and resonance in the world and literature. The event is organised by the Centre de Civilisation Polonaise at the Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris IV), the Service culturel de l'Université Paris-Sorbonne, the Centre de Recherche en Littérature Comparée de l'Université Paris-Sorbonne and the Foundation "Centrum Badan Historycznych" in Warsaw, with the participation of the Polish Embassy in Paris, Instytut Książki / Poland, the Association des Etudiants et Diplomés Polonais, and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland."Don, Reflets, Rivières..." / "Gift, Reflexions, Rivers..." takes place on Friday the 2nd of December 2011, at 19:00.Poems read by: Mélodie Richard and Pierre-François Garelvideo: Martin Maugeais and Arthur Couletpiano performance by: Józef Kapustkaconcept and texts selection: Danièle Chauvin and Mariola Odzimkowskahttp://www.institutpolonais.fr/#/event/527professional enquiries contact: mariola.odzimkowska_paris-sorbonne.fr
