Who is Jordan ?

Growing up, my parents always had the turntable spinning. They would play anything from Baroque to 60's folk and rock. I knew even then, as a young naive child in Huntington, WV, listening as my pop made mixed-tapes for my mom just how powerful music truly can be.

The older I got and as life's challenges grew, music stayed with me as a constant companion. The doorway to music opened up to a realm of freedom and expression, a world I saw so divine and healing as I lived with a very misunderstood "A.D.D." while attending a conservative Christian school.

Then as I was transitioning to not only public education but also the "awkward teen years" I quickly learned just how close music and I would become and still remain. There for my first broken heart. Endless summer days with neighborhood kids. The day my grandfather died. Rockin' out with my brother and next door neighbor in my first band (ask me about our big hit "Paranoid"). That sacred bench in town where I would write all day and night. Starting high school. Hating high school. My first kiss. My second broken heart. Sneaking out of the house to Columbus with my best friend...

At 17 as I was in the car with my pop passing through Main Street and Central Avenue at one very life changing moment. It was then I heard "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys sweetly crashing through the radio speakers! That day began the life-long marriage between pop music and myself.

In 2008, after years of performing as bassist and lead vocalist for 2 local area indie rock bands, I knew the time had come to spread my indie pop wings and take my solo flight. That fall I entered the studio to cut my solo debut single for ukulele, "Believe In Me" (released that December), which would later (in 2010) become the title track to my self-funded, composed, performed and co-produced 13-song debut full length. The album features many fan favorites from the lush, dreamy opener "Keep It Low" to the one-of-a-kind "Coconuts For You" to the intimate string laden ballad "The Boy In The Shadows". The most successful tune from the album has been the rockin' power-pop tune "The Air I Breathe" which is recieving major radio air-play in Orlando, Florida as well as being featued on Pop Garden Radio's "Rock On The Road Season 2" compilation (which also features former Sony Records recording artist Mike Viola, session lead vocalist for the Tom Hanks' rock and roll major motion picture "That Thing You Do!").

In support of the album I have released 3 official music videos: to film "Don't Stress What You Cannot Change" I traveled 32 hours directly to New Orleans, LA to film over a 2 day period and immediately return home!! I also travelled to Myrtle Beach, SC in December, swimming in the frigid Atlantic Ocean with an air temperature of 30 degrees, to film "Believe In Me"!! The other video,"The Air I Breathe" was filmed in a beautiful local park with several inches of snow on the ground featuring a Unkranian beauty as my co-star. In 2009 the single "Believe In Me" was selected to be featured as a movement in a Marshall Univeristy ballet production where I performed the tune live on stage along side the dancers.

Of the album, Blog Critis wrote, "Jordan Andrew Jefferson takes every pop cliché, and I mean every, and makes them his own form of pop genius. It's really admirable that he not only doesn't avoid pop stereotypes, but embraces them and finds a way to make them work. (Jordan) tighty grasps your heartstrings and refuses to let go...totally impossible to listen to without a huge smile on your face. Jordan will charm his way into the music collection of every pop-lover out there." Probyn Gregory (member of former Beach Boy, Brian Wilson's Band and 2005 Grammy Award Winner) wrote "So direct and universal...very good; good songs, production and singing."

While perfoming in support of the record, Marshall University's Parthanon said "To Jefferson, being a musician means more than playing shows and having fans. It's about connecting" while Huntington's Herald Dispatch was quoted saying of his performances "Unique originals...unlike anyone else. Fun and frisky pop...talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter."

In early 2011 I entered the studio to begin work on a new 5-song Summer EP (July 2011), "Laleh", featuring the lead-off title track, a piano driven pop-dance tune inspired by Swedish indie-pop singer-songwriter of the same name, as well as other 2 other new originals, a remix of the single and a stripped, raw, passionate performance of The Beach Boys' hit "Don't Worry Baby".

Scott Simons of Bug Music Publishing (Los Angeles, CA) and Rostrum Records recording artist wrote, "Awesome hearing pop coming out of West Virginia! I think you have a great sense of melody and emotion in your songs. The production is pretty hip."

The new year finds me sailing deeper and darker water as I work on the follow up to "Belive In Me", an album being issued single by single until it's compltition. Once all the tunes are completed they will be places in a cohesive order and given a proper release. One of the new tunes,"After You", features a crew of friends lending their vocal and instrumental support. Dave Lavender (entertainment writer for The Herald Dispatch) said, "That's a sweet tune...a lush and beautiful ballad without being cheesy - not easy to pull off...that needs to be on the radio". Another new tune, "Runaway Train" has been haild as setting the "standard for the modern pop-rock ballad".

Now at 28, the journey is far from over! I love nothing more than performing my original indie-pop music live, making friends and fans while returning again and again to the studio recording new material, advancing not only as a musician and entertainer but as a true artist! Music is my life and often at times, the only thing that makes sense. Who is Jordan? Listen to my music then ask yourself that same question. If you don't know by then you just might never understand. To quote The Beach Boys' Dennis Wilson, "There's no escape from being honest. On the inside, we're always honest. On the outside, we can bullshit. Inside, there's no escape".

The groundwork has been done. The music written. Now all I need is you: a close family of friends hang with me. Sure, I might not be everyone's cup-o-tea and I'm fine with that. But one thing I'm certain of is that if you stand by me, I'll stand by you. I love nothing more than to see you smile and I feel truly honored and blessed to have you on my side. A lotta work behind me and even more lies a head - but I love it and would enjoy doing nothing else. Thank you for believing in me! What's next? God only knows...

Did you know...

My birthday is 19 June 1983 (Gemini baby, all the way).

I was born with 12 fingers and two extra ribs.

I have had four major surgeries.

The first to remove my extra fingers (not my choice - i was a wee baby).

Two later on when I was in grade school to help correct my shoddy vision and crossed eyes.

And most recently (July 2010) to remove four ribs (the most physical pain I've experience thus far).

I was born with a pigeon chest.

My favourite band is The Beach Boys.

My favourite album is "Pet Sounds" by The Beach Boys.

My favourite song is "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys.

I met Brian Wilson 1 November 2010 in Morgantown, West Virginia!

I have also met Mike Love and Bruce Johnston and seen from a short distance, Al Jardine - all Beach Boys! (Did you see the pics?)

Other favourites in music are The Samples, The Beatles, Jellyfish, The Zombies, Paul Simon, Burt Bacharach, Badfinger, Big Star, Sigur Ros, Bjork, Daft Punk, Alphabeat, Jens Lekman, Bleu, Salem Al Fakir, Travis, Yanni, J Dilla, Third Eye Blind and so many more!

My favourite vocalist is Carl Wilson (The Beach Boys).

My second favourite vocalist is Art Garfunkel.

My favourite songwriter is Brian Wilson.

Other favourite songwriters are Burt Bacharach, Paul Simon, Sean Kelly (The Samples), and Paul McCartney .

I have been writing songs since at least the age of ten.

I have been a vegan since 2006 and vegetarian since 2004.

My favourite meal is vegan fajitas.

My favourite foods are red peppers, bananas, peanut butter, hummus, eggplants and spinach.

In Summer 2009, I was invited to perform live at a ballet on the campus of Marshall University as the dancers performed an original routine to my song "Believe In Me".

I am converting to Orthodox Christianity.

I am not perfect (please be patient with me).

I might let you down.

I worked at Walt Disney World after graduating high school.

I was a custodial host on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom.

Every day I wasn't working I was at the parks having a blast!

I love cartoons.

My favourite cartoon characters are Goofy, Brak, Charlie Brown and Spongebob.

My favourite TV show is Sanford and Son.

I was kicked out of piano lessons as a child and have never been back.

I have taught myself guitar, piano, ukulele, and bass.

It's not been easy but it has been super fun and rewarding!

I play bass guitar and sing in an alternative rock band called The Red Velvet.

We have 2 releases (1 EP, 1 LP) and we are currently recording number 3!

I am a major West Virginia University Basketball fan! (Have you seen the picture of myself with Coach Bob Huggins?)

I love to dance to house music!

I once hosted, organized and DJ'ed a Valentines Dance Party.

I might DJ live again.

I am awed and left speechless by nature.

I am heavily influenced by Transcendentalism.

I love the writings of Henry David Thoreau.

I also love Walt Whitman.

I am deeply inspired by Walt Disney.

I am also very amused by Charles Schultz ("Peanuts").

My favourite animals are Seagulls, Jellyfish, Monkeys, and Parrots.

I played my first solo gig in Huntington, West Virginia at the Calamity Cafe in 2004 at their open mic - the building is now Java Joint (feels like a second home).

I first got married when I was 21.

I first got divorced when I was 22.

I've not yet been re-married (though, I am not against the idea).

I suffer from anxiety, depression and A.D.D.

I once swam in the Atlantic Ocean in December in only a three piece Goodwill suit (see the "Believe In Me" music video).

I once played guitar outside in a bitter cold January snow with a beautiful Russian girl for hours (see "The Air I Breathe" music video).

I got supremely sick after both shoots.

My favourite city that I've visited is New Orleans, Louisiana (see the "Don't Stress What You Cannot Change" music video).

I am a pirate.

I was once kicked-out of college and have not been back since (yet just yesterday I learned I had managed to end up on the cover of their "Back To School Guide").

I have one older brother and two loving parents.

I once had a girlfriend break-up with me over texting.

I have been haunted by ghosts on and off since I was a teenager.

I once bought a bag of oranges to feed to elves and other hidden people.

Look near quiet water at dusk.

My favourite drummer is Jeep MacNichol (The Samples).

My favourite shoes are Chuck Taylors.

My favourite colour is blue ( a shade close to the colour of the sea).

Other favourite colours are orange and pink.

My favourite season is summer.

I am most happy when I am on the beach!

When not playing music I am either listening to music, drinking coffee, riding a bike dancing or doing all four at once.

I drew a comic strip in high school called "Russ Bosswell".

If you don't like to dance, we will get along but most likely not hit it off romantically.

A few female singers I have a crush on are Laleh, Stine Bramsen (Alphabeat), Nedra Talley (The Ronettes), Susan Dey (Partridge Family), Bjork, Robyn and possibly you.

Do you sing? That's the way to my heart!

I once kissed Billy Corgan's (Smashing Pumpkins) cousin.

I have been rapping since around the age of 13.

I have played at over 50 live hip-hop shows.

I love to freestyle (...ask me to next time you see me!).

I just entered a freestyle competition happening Aug '11 at a local university (...so stoked!).

I used to inline skate as a teenager.

I have never lost a staring contest.

Tom Arnold once told me I looked like Johnny Ramone.

I am tired and am logging off.

How the idea came

to me...

One day while I was in Cincinatti, Ohio, a man came up to me and looking at my button cover denim jacket he said, "You look like you might like this." He then handed me a big blue button with white text that simply asked "WHO IS ABBY?"

I've not seen the man since and after countless searches far and wide, I still have no clue who Abby really is! I do know, however, I owe a lot to her and to the man who kindly spread the confusion. I still have the button...
