Wellington Original and Covers Rock Band
About Us
Jones Deviation was established in early 2005. We started as two friends who had played in bands previously. The idea back then was to just muck around and learn a few 'sit around the table' acoustic drinking songs.
Rob and Sidney have played in various bands together and as solo performers for a number of years, such as 'Power House' and 'Slap Monkey'. Both of these bands were very different and yet very similar backgrounds and tastes in music.
So the beginning of Jones Deviation was in its earliest stages of conception. Rob soon mentioned that he had a friend at work who played the bass, and he was interested in having a jam. Enter, stage left, Owen. Looking back now, it can be said he is the reason that we are where we are today, but at that early stage, Jones Deviation wasnt anything too serious.
After a jam or two, it was decided that we should source some practice space and start advertising for a drummer. Looking back, I would say that this was the point that we decided that we would take it to the next step and try to become a viable band. Only one thing stood in our way: We still had no drummer, and the equipment we were using was... well... lets say we needed to upgrade!
Within weeks, Owen had a brand new amp that just kicked ass, and Rob had his 'wet dream' guitar and amp. The P.A. was being hired at the hall as there were also mics and leads.... and Sidney still with nothing new.
Now with everyone else sorted all we needed was a drummer, after some trials with the drummer situation, about a year passed and then Huki came on the scene. He had answered an add, but it wasnt until a couple of months had gone past that we finally got in touch. They say all good things come to those who wait, and this is very much the case with Huki. He is a major part of the band and is another member of the Jones Deviation brotherhood.
Jones Deviation more recently has had an additional guitarist join - Simon. What an incredible asset! The line up is now finally complete!!
Jones Deviation is more than just a band filled with band members, we are all best mates and like family, which shows in our perfomances.
