The founding document of the Eastbourne-Hungarian Association was signed by the joining members 6th December 2009. The representatives were selected by an open election 24th January 2010.
Thousands of Hungarians live in different cities and towns in Sussex County like Brighton, East Grinstead, Lewes, Bexhill and Hastings. Because of this there was a rising demand to establish a cultural association, which, as a focal point would provide a meeting place for the ones interested in and pledged to the Hungarian language, history, culture, music and dance.
Eastbourne is a wonderful town, a real pearl with its 100,000 inhabitants in the South Coast of England, between Brighton and Hastings. We would like to make it the cultural Mekka of the Hungarians through the activities of the Eastbourne Hungarians Association.
In the Association there are many people representing different age groups and nationalities, young and independent adults, the elderly and Hungarian-Hungarian or mixed families. Our members are connected through the Hungarian culture.
Representatives and committee members elections are held every year. Those adults can be elected as representatives and committee members who are over 18 and have been living in the UK for a year at least. The representatives and committee members fulfil the positions on a voluntary basis.

One of the aims of the Association is keeping up the Hungarian language and culture, holding the people with scopes of Hungarian emotions together and transmitting the Hungarian spirituality. We would like to show an example concerning caring and respecting each other. The Association has nothing to do with politics. Its mission is purely to transmit the Hungarian brotherhood, mentality and culture.
In spite of the fact that the centre of our Association is in Eastbourne, our members are not only locals. Amongst them there are and there can be individuals and families living somewhere else. The Association welcomes those as well who were not born as Hungarians, but they sympathise with us and feel responsibility for our aims.
Our other aim is to commemorate our National Holidays like 15th March, 20th August, 23rd October in their dignity.
Happiness is represented by the Carnival, Valentine Day and Santa Claus parties.
Amongst our aims is to teach children and adults who do not speak the Hungarian, but they have Hungarian roots or emotions for the Hungarian language and culture. We support our Hungarian speaker members concerning English language learning. Besides that we teach them and we together take care of Hungarian folk music and dances.
