Preparing young women for the Workforce

By attending the WWJF : Women in the Workforce Job Fair at Central Nine Career Center, the young women will interact with various professional women from our community. At this crucial time in the female students lives when planning and preparing to enter the workforce in the next several years, seeing and hearing from role models that are in the profession are important. The Women in the Workforce Job Fair will give these female students the opportunity to meet and question these role models. Hopefully, they will engage in discussions that may spark an interest that was not currently known before attending the job fair. Making young women aware of all the possibilities is essential to the workforce of tomorrow! Although not an easy task is it to take away stereotypes of certain jobs being related or only geared toward males or females, but this must be done. Breaking down barriers for all genders to be accepted in all fields of careers is a must. The Indiana Department of Workforce is a great website to review and gain knowledge on jobs/careers available in Indiana. Another great reference tool in Indiana is Indiana Career Connect. There is an occupational outlook handbook that is provided each year that lists all the different career and occupations .

Why Us?

Central Nine is a public school offering a wide variety of programs designed to provide education and training that meets todays business, industry and college requirements. Central Nine programs stress academic achievement and technical skill attainment since each of these are invaluable.Central Nine Career Center is affiliated with nine area high schools. The 100,000 square foot campus that sits on 65 acres is comprised of seven buildings for classrooms, laboratories, offices and other instruction resource facilities. The school can accommodate approximately 750 students in each of our 4 sessions per day.

Dr. Stephen Hagen

Mr. Stan Wilkison
Dr. Hagen is the Executive Director for Central Nine Career Center. He is a graduate of Ball State University and Purdue University, having completed his Ph.D. in Educational Administration and School Superintendent license through Purdue University. Dr. Hagen taught Industrial and Career/Technical classes for sixteen years in the Monticello, Indiana area. He has been the chief administrator for Career & Technical Education in Kokomo, Logansport, and Central Nine, since leaving the classroom in 1995.Dr. Hagen has led initiatives to build two new facilities and remodel a third, provide first-class technologies, and reform CTE curriculum in each of his communities to include strong academic and skill development. While in Logansport, his career center was recognized as a state and national model school by the state Superintendent of Public Instruction and by the International Center for Educational Leadership. His work _ Central Nine is helping to ensure this school offers world-class opportunities to students. He believes that the staff and communities associated with Central Nine are the finest in the world.Dr. Hagen was named the Indiana Vocational Director of the Year in 2002. He has been a presenter at state and national conferences, including the National Model Schools Conference, the Indiana High School Summit, Indiana Student Achievement Institute, National Career Academies Conference, National Association of Career and Technical Education Institute Conference and the Indiana Principal’s Leadership Association Conference. His recent work is on the effects of CTE on student engagement, achievement and transition for college and career readiness.Dr. Hagen has facilitated workshops and professional development seminars across the state regarding school reinvention initiatives and strategies. He has hosted the President of Purdue University as well as educational leadership teams from Japan and Afghanistan.Dr. Hagen introduced the first pre-engineering program in the state and served on the state steering committee for this initiative. He currently serves on the steering committee for the Conexus consortium in central Indiana with an emphasis to address the looming shortage of qualified individuals in Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics careers.Dr. Hagen grew up in Shelby County, graduated from Morristown High School and served in the U.S. Army.Dr. Hagen has been the recipient of a Lilly Creativity Fellowship and enjoys good food, great literature, wooden boats and great conversations. He is married with three adult children and a Golden Retriever named Scholar Leigh.
I was born and raised in Greensburg, IN and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1991. After graduation, I had an opportunity to play tennis at the University of Indianapolis where I earned a B.S. in Marketing and Accounting. My undergraduate college expenses were paid for through a tennis scholarship and by working on the weekends and in the summer months. After graduation, I worked for Morton Buildings as a sales consultant for three years. At this time, I was ready for a more challenging position that offered more responsibilities. Thus, I was drawn into education to instruct marketing and business courses as well as become a tennis coach. I felt that I had more to offer to society than what I had been contributing. So, in March of 1998 I resigned from my sales position and enrolled into Ball State’s Secondary Education program to earn a Masters Degree in Secondary Education with a specializing in marketing and business education.I attended Ball State University and obtained a M.A. of Secondary Education specializing in business and marketing. During that time I also served as a graduate assistant for the secondary and higher education office. Working as a graduate assistant allowed me to continue my education so that I can pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. Over the past twelve years, eleven in the CTE environment, I have had the taught and array of business courses to adult and secondary education students. In 2008 I had an opportunity to participate in the Career and Technical Education Academy which enabled me to obtain an administrative license and a second master’s degree in career in technical education. In my family life, my wife and I have been happily married for ten years and have two beautiful daughters Alexa who is 9 and Rylie who is 5. We currently reside in Shelbyville, IN and are both educators. My wife teaches kindergarten for Shelbyville Central Schools and I am an assistant director and principal at Central Nine Career Center.
