The Smith family has followed a tradition of farming that stretches back over a centrury and across continents. Descending from Spanish tomato farmers and Ohioan corn growers, current owners and siblings Janice, Ken, Bill and Shirley opened Smith Family Farm for business in the late 1970's. Since then, thousands of families have come to the farm to experience their unique, old-fashioned take on fruits and vegetables, while countless others around the Bay Area have flocked to local farmers' markets for their famous selection of heirloom tomatoes.
Other members of the Smith family include: Betty, their mother, Janice's son Nic, and their cousin Robin Pastor. Betty entertains children during the Fall and Spring seasons while Nic and Robin work at the fruit stand and sell produce at local farmers' markets.
The great majority of employees at the farm are family friends and cousins.
