In Colour - The Music Album
Hello, and welcome to the home page of my debut music album: In Colour! As you will learn from other pages on this site, this album was conceived of as a project to record some of the products of my first foray into song writing, and to support some causes close to my heart at the same time.
This site is meant to give background information on the project, and to give people a resource to find out more about the charity involved. Whether you're looking for copies of the music, lyrics, feature artwork, or information on "Hope for the Sold" (see The Cause above) it's all here! If you'd like to get in touch with me personally please feel free to drop me an email at: j.h.brunsting_gmail.com. Enjoy the tunes!

The Project This album has been the product of a couple years of sporadic songwriting, musical collaboration with friends, and some generosity and expertise of a local musical enthusiast. It has a story of its own which I can only touch on here, but I'll try and give you a brief synopisis:
For the last 2 years I have been doing some song writing here and there, and after Christmas holidays in January 2011 I figured I had enough for a short album. I bought myself a MacBook, a microphone, and a "Home Recording for Dummies" book and got down to it. After a lot of trial and error I had some scratch tracks together.
One Saturday afternoon in April I was having coffee with the pastor of my church and I described the musical project I was working on, and he offered to put me in touch with a friend of his who was a musician and musical recording enthusiast: Steve Marfisi. After meeting with Steve and showing him the work I had done, he offered to help me record the songs in his studio ("Secret Passageway Studio") and produce the album himself. We spent most of the summer and early fall recording tracks with myself and some musically inclined friends during short sessions in the studio. Steve added his own personal touch with backup instruments and percussion in addition to offering valuable advice and ideas along the way. The music available to you now is the result of this collaboration. I have to say it has been a fun and very enjoyable process, and I am proud of the finished product!
I always had in mind to do this as a charity project. The majority of the proceeds are going toward "Hope for the Sold", and $1 from each sale is going to Woodland Christian High School (see next page for more information).
The Cause Hope for the Sold
The majority of the proceeds are going toward the album's main cause: Hope for the Sold. Founded by Michelle and Jay Brock, this organization works to raise awareness about and prevent human trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation. They are currently on a fundraising drive, and it is hoped that this album will be a help in that effort. For more information visit their website:

Woodland Christian High School
$1 from the sale of each album is going to support Woodland Christian High School, a Christian secondary educational institution serving the Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo area. For more information visit their website:

Development of the feature art piece, by Anna Stoneburgh:
Having listened to your song several times, I had some ideas of colour, and knew I wanted light and dark elements, but to keep every colour vibrant and true, not too grey. Originally I imagined a more structured abstract composition, but as I began painting and putting down the colours, while still listening to your song, I was struck by the need to find some integration of the elements, some overlap. Our lives are comprised of a variety of things including different roles, places, tasks, and situations. But it is impossible to keep each of these wholly compartmentalized. So as I sought to bring each colour into the other, a more organic flow and composition came about, centring around and flowing from/into a strong centre of yellow/orange, the personhood in the midst of all of life's events and encounters.
