The Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals Summer ACE Academy is a nationally recognized program co-sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NBCFAE). The purpose of Aviation Career Education (ACE) is to offer first level exposure to the aviation industry by providing aviation career exploration for middle and high school students. Camp participants learn about aviation history, theory of flight, and other aviation related subjects. Students will have the opportunity to go on field trips to aviation facilities, museums and participate in other hands on activities designed to give students a total aviation experience.

ACE Academy is a unique, one of a kind, five-day aviation indoctrination program sponsored by Memphis City Schools, the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc./Memphis Chapter, and Federal Express. Supporters include the Federal Aviation Administration, the Tennessee Air National Guard, the Memphis Airport Authority, Pinnacle Airlines, the Tennessee Technology Center, and a host of aviation-related corporations and professionals throughout the Memphis area.The purpose of the camp is to expose bright and highly motivated young people to the exciting opportunities awaiting those who are prepared for careers in aviation.

As a member of an ACE Academy you will:
> Take an orientation flight in a Cessna or Piper aircraft
> Receive basic aviation education
> Take field trips to different aviation related facilities
> Be introduced to aviation history
> Fly a full-motion flight simulator
> Learn the qualities of leadership
> Associate and work with other youth
> Meet professionals from the aviation community
> Operate unmanned aerial systems and remote control vehicles
Admission is offered to boys and girls from 14 to 18 years old who have an interest in learning about aviation. Applicants are competitively ranked based on age, cumulative GPA, and essay. Students must be physically capable of participating in all activities.High standards of behavior and self-discipline are expected and students must abide by all academy regulations.Although the academy is absolutely free to participants, there is a $20.00 non-refundable application fee for ALL APPLICANTS to cover administrative costs.

The requirements are:
1.Submit a $20.00 non-refundable application fee. Check or money order only payable to: OBAP ACE Academy
2.Submit a completed online ACE Academy application
3.Write and submit an essay of one page (only one page) expressing your interest in aviation. You may include your hobbies, civic involvement, and extra-curricular activities
4.Submit a copy of your most recent official school transcript or report card indicating your cumulative GPA **
5.Submit a copy of your birth certificate or passport **
**(No need for originals)
Application packages MUST INCLUDE all five (5) of the above application requirement items. Incomplete packages will not be considered for admission and all documents will be discarded.
Academy Cost: None!! Application fee: $20.00. Students will need money only if they intend to purchase personal items.

Capt.Byron MacRae is originally from Wilmington, NC. He is the proud son of Margie MacRae and the late John F. MacRae III. Byrons interest in flying started from the early age 5 and he started taking flying lessons at the age 15. Byron graduated from New Hanover High School (NHHS) and received his Private pilots license in the Fall of 1999.
After Graduating High School Byron attended Daytona Beach Community College and transferred into the Psychology Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
After college Byron was married and moved to Concord, NC, where he began his flying career with Aero Services flying small single engine aircraft and light twins.
In September 2004 and at the age of 23, Byron started his career as an Airline pilot with Corporate Airlines. Corporate Airlines was a small feeder airline for Midway Airlines and American Airlines. They operated the British Aerospace Jetstream 32, which is a 19 seat Turbo-prop. After flying there for about a year, Byron started with Chautauqua Airlines in May of 2005. Chautauqua Airlines is owned by the Republic Airways group.
Byron has done extremely well for his age; He is now 28 years old and a Captain on the Embraer E170/E175 Aircraft. Byron is continues to fly for Republic Airways which is dba Us Airways Express.
Byron has been the Charlotte City Director for OBAP since 2006 and has headed the ACE project in Charlotte since 2007. Byron is dedicated to bring education to all youth, no matter what type of backgrounds they come from Byron is married Tessa and they reside in Concord, NC with their dog BLU. They are expecting their first child in July of this year. Concord is the city 5 miles to the north of Charlotte.
Burnell a is native of New Orleans and a graduate of Louisiana State University. He started his aviations career in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) flying T34, T44 and KC130 becoming both a KC130 Aircraft commander and a T-44 flight instructor. After the USMC Burnell started his civilian aviations as a 727 Flight Engineer with America Airlines then with JetBlue Airways as an A320 first officer. Burnell is currently a LtCol USMCr and E190 Capitan with Jetblue Airways.
Originally from Hampton, Virginia, William CJ Charltons family lived overseas for most of his first 17 years of life. Though his father was in the Air Force, he primarily served in the Defense Attaché Office (DAO) for the US State Department. This afforded CJs family the opportunity to live in many foreign countries and travel the world experiencing different cultures.
Upon graduating from high school in Dover, Delaware, he accepted a four year Air Force ROTC scholarship for Aerospace Engineering to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in Daytona Beach, Florida. After completing his second year, CJ left ERAU and the ROTC program, transferring to Delaware State University to pursue a degree in Airway Science. It was there that he was recruited by the North Carolina Air National Guard (NCANG), to be a C-130 pilot.
Upon his graduation in 1995, CJ became the North Carolina Air National Guards first African American without prior military experience that they sponsored to attend Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) for the Air Force. CJ currently serves as a C-130 Aircraft Commander in the156 Airlift Squadron, operating out of Charlotte, North Carolina. During his 12 years in the squadron, CJ has accumulated over 2500 hours of flight time, with over 1,000 of them occurring in combat conditions. He has also served on the squadrons UPT selection panel, during which time the unit hired 12 African American aircrew members.
In January of 2000, CJ joined Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA) as a first officer on their Canadair Regional Jet. The following year he upgraded to Captain on the companys newly acquired Dornier Regional Jet. During his tenure at ACA, CJ was a significant factor in the recruitment of African American pilots at the company, working in conjunction with the Organization of Black Airline Pilots (OBAP). In August of 2005, he left ACA to join Continental Airlines. He currently serves as a first officer in the Boeing 757/767 fleet, flying domestic and international routes out of Liberty International Airport in Newark, New Jersey.
During his entire post collegiate life CJ has been an active member of OBAP. He has held the positions of Parliamentarian, Advisor to Institutional Members, Chairman of the Professional Pilot Development Program and most recently, Southeast Region Vice President. He is commonly recognized as an individual that many members having little to no flying experience seek for counseling on how best to develop an aviation career.
In addition to serving as the Director of the Jacksonville ACE Academy CJ recently joined the Aviation Advisory Board for the College of Business, for Jacksonville University.

Joseph Manny Cook Jr. was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey where he graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1996. Upon completion of high school he matriculated to Hampton University in Hampton, VA where he graduated with honors in 2000 with a B.S. in management.
His aviation career started during his tenure at Hampton when he obtained his private pilot license at 17. During his tenure at Hampton, Joe was selected and accepted in to the distinguished brotherhood of the illustrious Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. His acceptance to the fraternity further cultivated his desire to give back to the community.
After Hampton he started his journey to becoming a professional pilot. This journey has taken him thru numerous states and many aviation jobs ranging from teaching, managing pilots, flying cargo single pilot at night, as well as flying for a commuter airline before he reached his lifelong goal of joining the Continental Airlines pilot ranks in 2006. After flying the Boeing 737 for a year he bid over to his current position of Boeing 757/767 First officer.
He is currently active on the Professional Standards Commitee at Continental which helps pilots and other employees effectively resolve interpersonal and personality conflicts.

Michelle Scott was born in Cristobal, Canal Zone. She attended Abel Bravo High School in Colon, Republic of Panama. After her high school graduation, she attended the Panama Canal College before transferring to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in Daytona Beach, Florida. Ms. Scott graduated from ERAU in 1996 with a bachelors degree in Aeronautical Science with an Airway Science option. Her aviation career has taken her thru various paths from her internship at Continental Airlines to flight instructing at ERAU and now currently serving as a C-130 pilot in the Puerto Rico Air National Guard.

Dawn Wanzer was born and raised in the Northern Virginia area. At a young age she discovered her love of flying as she traveled with her mother, a flight attendant for over 25 years.
At the completion of high school, she was accepted to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona). There she received the bulk of her flight training, as well as a Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Science in 2002. She then relocated to Atlanta, GA, where she was a flight instructor for several years.
She later flew cargo for Airnet Systems and then obtained her first airline opportunity with PSA Airlines. Dawn spent several years at the regional level before moving onto larger equipment at Spirit Airlines. She is currently employed with Delta Air Lines and flies the Boeing 737-800 out of LaGurdia Airport.
