The Englewood Multicultural Center is a not-for-profit community center founded in January 2009 and based in Chicago's Englewood Community.
The Organization places heavy emphasis on the use of technology to serve as a hub for programs, educators, and business leaders focused on quality-of-life improvements in the community.
The Mission of Englewood Multicultural Center is to serve the community through live and online collaboration in Englewood and the surrounding areas to enable successful development of resident driven initiatives, exposure via new media and support by the business community.
We work with multiple Communities of Interest to crowd-source progress!
Unique to the Center is our 340 person theater. Each program will produce exhibitions in the theater as ongoing fundraisers.
Our Digital Inclusion Strategy connects the community center to our digital platform YouAspire.com - a window on the Englewood Multicultural Center.
Ultimately this connection will provide a dynamic flow of youth-inspired information and entertainment programming via internet TV, blog Radio, SMS text, and emerging new media.
Digital Inclusion also enables us to crowd-source development by including non-residents and subject matter experts to participate without being onsite.
The Englewood Multicultural Center is based on the concept of Communities of Participation. This increases our access to pools of human capital and allows us to work across a number of disciplines.
We will be the bridge between these resources. As we get concepts from the community we leverage social networks to rapidly design, develop, and deploy solutions through our community center.
The Englewood Multicultural Center hosts multiple programs based on 4-distinct silos. Each silo is managed by an organization with institutional and/or commercial experience in their respective program area. The silos are connected by principles to improve the socioeconomic health of the community
Program Silos: Arts & Entertainment, Life Skills Management, Business, Technology
Target Groups: Residents and Students in Englewood, Pilsen, Auburn Gresham, and Chicago Lawn neighborhoods
Age Range: Youth ages 10-19 and adults committed to entrepreneurial and life skills training.
Significant Outcomes: Englewood Multicultural Center will be the innovation environment to provide instruction, create content and lines of business resulting in jobs for the community.
