About JAMM
There are no strangers here Only friends we haven't met
Joann and Lou Miller came into my life in 2006 when she signed on to become a volunteer with the rescue I co-founded.
With a little money and a lot of passion, my codirector and I worked tirelessly to build our rescue into what it is today. Our volunteer core numbers nearly 60 caring people who share our vision. Along the way, one of those volunteers, Joann Miller stepped up to help us and in doing so a friendship with her and her wonderful husband, Lou was sparked.
Joann showed up for events no matter how far the drive (she got lost every time!) or how ill she felt. You see, in her late forties she began a battle with kidney disease that ultimately would prove to be more than even she could handle.
Regardless of the pain she was in, you'd find her at our fundraisers garbed in baseball cap, T-shirt and God bless her, she'd sell her heart out - all to help the homeless dogs that touched her with their sad stories.
We tease Lou that Joann could have sold the Devil his soul and we believe it. Her life ended far too soon and her passing saddened us because we felt her work was unfinished.
And so I approached her husband with an idea to hold a memorial motorcycle run in her honor. My original intent was to donate the monies raised to a foundation to help others with kidney disease. Lou approved of my idea with one caveat - he wanted all of the money to go back to the dogs that Joann so loved.
Three years later, we've raised more than $10,000.00 to help rescue, rehabilitate and rehome more than 310 dogs.
Please join us April 29th, 2012 for JAMM IV to celebrate a life so deserving of this fine memorial.

WILD AT HEART THE WOMEN BEHIND JAMM
I met Rayna (pictured on the right) while searching for a new home for a displaced German Shorthaired Pointer. New to rescue myself, it was completely by luck that our paths crossed. A friendship of sorts was born and since that day she and I have discovered that we have a
few very important things in common.
The dogs of course - we both dedicate ourselves to finding the best home for any dog that needs help within our rescue groups. And then there is the love for adventure that we share. In our discussions over fundraising we came up with the idea for JAMM. Although our volunteers thought we were both nuts (maybe we are) we believed that Jamm would be a success. Well, truth be told we really thought we'd be the only 2 attendees at that first years run.
I don't say this often but I'm REALLY happy we were both wrong.
JAMM I was a huge success - partly due to the sheer amount of effort she and I extended to make it right and also because we had the help of some awesome volunteers who stepped up despite their thoughts that we'd both lost our minds.
Jamm II was attended by nearly 150 people and JAMM III was a hit - nearly 275 attendees! We hope our Fourth Annual will be even better and hopefully a little bit bigger.
To Rayna for helping each year, to the volunteers that support our groups, to the attendees, the sponsors and especially the riders - thanks for all you do to keep JAMM alive.

Road Rules
The following tips are being offered to make all of you aware of the techniques that will allow a group of six (6) or more motorcycles to stay together, ride safely, and enjoy the trip. Some of these tips may already be part of your every day riding habits, but some may be new to you and will certainly make any group ride more enjoyable.
1.) All participants are to arrive ON TIME and be ready to ride. Please have a full tank of gas and a well maintained bike to avoid any problems.
2.) The ROAD CAPTAIN is responsible for speed, lane changes, and stops. As in the past, Rich B from the American Legion Riders will be your event Road Captain.
3.) The maximum speed for this run will be to keep up with the flow of traffic OR as posted by law. This is a NJ State Police escorted run!
4.) Normal group formation will be staggered, as it allows for a greater safety cushion between riders at all times. Normal space between riders will be between 2 to 3 seconds by count. Riding 2-up will be at the discretion of the Road Captain leading the group. If you rde in 2-up formation always stay in line with the bike in front of you, and do not switch between the left and right side of the lane, no matter where the bike next to you may wander.
5.) On curves, single-file formation when signaled by the Road Captain to allow plenty of maneuvering space until reaching a straight away, or until a 2-up signal is given.
6.) No racing past or switching positions. Stay in your starting positions unless signaled to change. NO CLOWNING AROUND. Remember, there are newer riders, and we ride for fun, and don't want anyone to get hurt.
7.) Obey all signals of the ROAD CAPTAIN . Always signal to the rider behind you by the use of hand signals from the person in front of you so that the information can be passed along.
8.) If your riding partner has problems or needs to pull over, pull over with him, or signal the Road Captain so he can find a safe place to pull everyone over. In the event the problem cannot be resolved in fifteen minutes, the Road Captain or appointed officer will determine the next step. Also, if you decide to leave the group for any reason while the ride is in progress please be sure to notify the Road Captain or an assistant.
9.) Keep a safe distance from the rider in front of you. PLEASE try to maintain a constant pace to avoid rubber banding.
10.) Stay close to each other in the group through intersections and traffic lights, so that the group doesn't get cut in two. If there are outriders controlling traffic at an intersection, DO NOT stop unless directed to by the outrider.
THESE ARE THE RIDING PROCEDURES THAT WILL BE FOLLOWED BY OUR GROUP FOR THE PURPOSE OF SAFETY OF ALL PERSONS PARTICIPATING IN JAMM.
