Jennifer Koley, LMT, NCTMB, Yoga Instructor
Jenn is a graduate of Universal College of Healing Arts in Omaha, NE. She is the co-founder for the Center for Healing Balance in the historic Benson neighborhood in Omaha, NE. She is certified in multiple modalities of massage, teaches Hatha Yoga and is currently working on her degree and licensure as a Chemical Dependency Counselor. Jenn is also an active member of a 12-Step program and has struggled with chemical dependancy and mental illness most of her life. These struggles (and victories) are the basis of Yoga Twelve.
In Her Own Words
I first began thinking about the creation of Yoga Twelve in September 2008. My own recovery has been so greatly enhanced by the practice of Yoga and Meditation that I developed a passion for sharing the knowledge with others in my community.
Regardless of your 12-Step program you are told that you must find a spiritual foundation, and develop a reliance on a Higher Power, as you understand it. For me this meant using the tools taught to me in a Yoga class.
Yoga postures (Asanas) prime the body for sitting in Meditation, it is simply a side benefit that they can make a body flexible and lean. The knowledge I gained (and continue to gain) in my own practice taught me that Meditaion can come in many forms and in none of them is your mind completely void, or "turned off". Learning how to accept myself compassionately and without judgment came through Yoga. Please don't misunderstand...I still believe that the 12 Steps are an important part of my life, Yoga just deepens the experience for me. i hope it will for you too.
