In 1998 Lynne Maree approached Mannie Manim (then head of the Performing Arts Administration) with the idea of the Kultcha Klub - a platform where fledgling and established playwrights could develop work in a safe environment and where new and classic texts were explored in rehearsed readings by students and professionals.Now staged readings have come full circle and can be enjoyed at Wits again this May and June as part of Power Plays. In this first season contemporary North American plays will be in the spotlight: “Cry Havoc” written by Tony Coash and directed by Lynne Maree takes place in modern-day Cairo and explores the relationship between two men against a backdrop of political unrest.
