about about
My name is Jackson Griggs. I'm 18 years old. And this is my life story... well, not really.I've been fumbling my way around the music arena for quite some time now, so finally, I decided it was about time to create a website so that I could promote my music. Congratulations, you've found that website! [applause]While I'm congratulating you, I'm just going to take a moment to actually thank you for visiting my website - I spent an entire weekend making sure all the animations and transitions worked correctly so it's good to know that it's being seen and heard. But back to me [this is my about section after all]. I've been involved in music basically since I started primary school. Since then, I've picked up the tuba, the trombone, the piano and various random percussion instruments, which is always good fun. My main instrument [if you can call it that] is my very own voice.I didn't really start composing until Year 9 music tour, when, armed with my trusty Toshiba laptop with a freeware version of NoteWorthy Composer installed, I wrote a little Beethoven inspired piano piece while squished in the back of the tour bus. Apparently it was good. So I kept writing, and writing, and writing and not studying [which proved problematic at the end of Year 12]. And then I discovered songwriting...Anyway, that's a little bit of history for you - back to the reason this website exists. So far, my musical abilities go as far as performing and composing, however once musiciansfriend.com ships my all-in-one recording studio, of which I spent many hours [and dollars] on, I'll begin the task of recording some of my songs. Cue realise. realise is my album in the making. Admittedly, when I say "in the making" I mean I'm planning to make it, but I digress. It's primarily a collection of songs that I've written this year and last that I never ended up doing anything with due to my lack of recording equipment. They're songs that I've written in good and bad [and occasionally incredibly confusing] times, that really say something about who I am as a person. And, also, because I'm a sucker for Rufus Wainwright, I'll be doing one or two covers of his songs as well [and before you go to have a look at the track listing and criticise me at my lack of music knowledge, I know that Hallelujah is written by Leonard Cohen. I just prefer Rufus' version].The other album that's on this site is The Cumulus, my collection of original compositions that I've written, dating back to 2007. These ones, unlike the still-to-come-to-fruition tracks on realise, are purely instrumental [with the exception of Le lever et le coucher du soleil, my only SATB piece] but because I dont like to limit myself to a particular genre or ensemble, they range from minimalistic-ish electronic pieces to large orchestral scores. However, because I consider The Cumulus as more of a personal collection of compositions as opposed to a commercial album [soon to be realise], I'm offering all the tracks for free!Oh, and don't ask me where I got the title The Cumulus from, because I have no idea.If you've managed to get this far, then you deserve another congratulations for putting up with my inane drivel. I know they have blogs for these sorts of things, but this was easier. Anyway, please enjoy the rest of your visit and feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or some of your own inane drivel as payback for putting up with mine.Jackson Griggs
