Ladakh, is a region of Jammu and Kashmir , the north of the most unwealthiest parts of India. It lies between the Kunlun Mountain range. It is one of the most sparsely (thinly scattered and distributed) populated countries in Kashmir.
The largest town in Ladakh is Leh. It is one of the few remaining homes of Buddhism in South Asia. Some Ladakhi advocates have, in the past, asked for Ladakh to be made as a place where only some religions can take place because of its religious and cultural differences with infulence over other Muslims.
One of the first tribes (groups of people) to arrive in Ladakh were the Indo- Aryans . Around the 1st century, Ladakh was a part of the Keshena empire. Buddhism spread in the west of Ladakh starting from Kashmir in the 2nd century when much of the east of Ladakh and west of Tibet were still practising the Bon religion and were refusing to convert to buddhists.
After the break-up of the Tibetan empire in 842 ac , Nyima-Gon, a member of the ancient Tibetan royal house discovered who the first Ladakh royal family was.
However, soon after the victory, the people of the Tibetan royal house , decided on building up Buddhism, so they looked to north-west India, particularly Kashmir, and converted over 1000 people.
The Indus river. The river that lies between the state of Jammu and Kashmir. One of the the most famous tourist attractions in the whole of Ladakh. A wide, blue pool of glistening water that is smooth with the frequent movement or two. It is one of the reasons Ladakh is beatiful. Even with it's unbelievable tempratures and incredible landscapes, Ladakh still wouldn't be anything without the Indus River.
