On January 17, 2009 it was decided by Sharithea Cherry, Theresa Brown, Tonya Scott, Tijuana Williams, Jovaughn Singleton and Beverly Gayden to start a new Order of the Eastern Star (OES) Chapter. There were 2 meetings prior to making the decision; both held at different locations. Within these meetings several decisions were made. One of the decisions was to include Starr Lusk, who also became one of the founders – one of the “Original 7”. There were several contests held to decide the name, color, scripture and motto for the new Chapter and petitioners to join them in their quest to start anew under Eureka Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, State of Illinois - Prince Hall Affiliation. Upon the great American way (by voting), it was decided that the name would be Imani. OUR NAME ~ Imani means Faith OUR SOCIAL NAME ~ Pure Elegance OUR COLOR ~ The color green, which symbolizes prosperity, wealth, balance, learning, growth and harmony OUR SCRIPTURE ~ “And now abideth Faith, Hope, Charity, these three; but the greatest of these is Charity” 1 Corinthians 13:13 OUR MOTTO ~ “I am a Divine Original Fashioned by God to be Radiantly Beautiful” OUR WALK ~ To be an Eastern Star is an honor. In our daily walk, we strive to be positive and honorable in our Attitude, Appearance and our Actions - Fearing God and only God. OUR MISSION ~ To be recognized as a Chapter making a positive difference in the lives of others through Charity: by dedicating our lives to service, through Truth: by our belief in a higher being and through Lovingkindness: by loving our neighbor as we love ourselves. And, being honorable in our Attitude, Appearance and Actions. On March 4, 2009, 25 women of Imani met with Worthy Grand Matron Sis. Shalonda F.W. Patterson and was granted approval to begin the process of forming a new chapter under Eureka Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star - State of Illinois, Prince Hall Affiliation.
