Iku Oseki has been teaching art at Fayerweather Street School in Cambridge Massachusetts for twelve years.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, Iku earned her BA from Oberlin College in Biology, then studied painting and graphic design at Massachusetts State College of Art. Iku worked for the Shadow Box Theater in New York City as an illustrator, graphic designer, and stage set designer for many years before she decided to become a teacher. She has been an active artist, mainly in painting, since the early 1990s. Currently, she resides in Somerville , Massachusetts.
Children's art, Iku thinks, is the best source of inspiration. Their spontaneous, unpretentious work and ideas often influence her subject matter. Iku also appreciates Japanese calligraphy and the power of simple lines. She often uses free flowing lines as in calligraphy to create her compositions.
