Isabel Cartaxo, artesã, iniciou o trabalho na área da Tapeçaria com Gisella Santi (tapeçaria contemporânea) e na Tecelagem com Marcelino Andrade Santos (tecelagem de Cabo-Verde).
Actualmente desenvolve o trabalho de tecelagem e fiação no seu espaço/oficina em Viana do Alentejo, onde promove projectos de criação e investigação na área têxtil com outros artesãos e artistas de diversas disciplinas.
Dá ainda a conhecer como se trabalha a lã, da ovelha ao tear, passando também pela tinturaria, uma verdadeira Oficina da Lã.
De janelas voltadas para o campo, a deixar ver as éguas e o burro Sebastião, com o som de fundo dos chocalhos do rebanho de ovelhas que também por lá anda, o espaço convida artesãos, artistas e quem se interesse por estas actividades a desenvolver projectos, em residência, de criação, investigação e formação na área dos têxteis e afins. A oficina conta com uma mini biblioteca e está apetrechada com equipamento e material para a produção têxtil a partir de diversas técnicas como fiação, tecelagem, tapeçaria, feltragem, tricô, croché……...

Isabel Cartaxo is a handicraft artist.
She started working in Tapestry with Gisella Santi (modern tapestry weaving) and Weaving with Marcelino Andrade Santos (weaving from Cape Verde).
Presently she works in weaving and spinning in her atelier in Viana do Alentejo, where she is active in projects of creation and investigation about textiles with other craftspeople and artists from a number of creative fields. She is also active in awareness projects, showing the «route of wool», from the lamb to the loom, including dyeing a true «Oficina da Lã» (wool workshop).
Looking onto the fields, where the mares and Sebastião, the donkey, graze in the sound of the flock's bells who share their space and food, the vicinity welcomes craftspeople and artists with a flair for such activities, interested in creative projects, investigation and training in textiles and textile related activities.
The atelier offers a small library and is equipped with looms and material for textile creation be it spinning, weaving, tapestry, knitting, crotchet ...
