Low-Level Aviation - the "Mach Loop"
"550mph + 250 feet = 10 seconds of pure adrenaline!"
I visit North Wales several times during the course of the year for walking and photographing aircraft at low-level. Low-level flying is an essential element of training for RAF pilots and it is carried out all over the country. Wales is undoubtedly the most popular venue due to its easy accessibility and frequented use by air arms across the world.
I have sat on hillsides in all weathers hoping to get that one shot that can encapsulate the rush of adrenaline that one obtains when a grey flash is spotted in the distance followed by a tell-tale rumble.
The slideshow on the right highlights some of the many photos I have taken while visiting what is known as the loop (named due to the unofficial one-way circuit through valleys routing over Machynlleth). My first visit was in May 2003 whilst at University and I have been going ever since.
