About Ian
Ian has had an interest in photography since the purchase of his first camera in 1993, aged 12. In 1998 he had his first SLR, a Pentax ME Super. Since then he has used a Canon 300V, Canon 350D and is now the user of a Canon 40D with both Canon and Sigma lenses. He uses Sony and Canon HD Pro video cameras and is proficient in the use of these cameras, camera cranes and jibs and video editing software.
He is constantly looking for a unique image and applies his individual style to all of his photos. His photographic interest include aviation (both airshows and low-level flying), landscapes, nature, HDR, macro and event photography.
He works as a Senior ICT professional at a state-of-the-art Academy in Birmingham and is employed part-time at the Garrick Theatre in Lichfield. Ian lists his Father as a great influence on many things in his life including his love of Formula One, airshows, airband radio and photography. Another great influence on Ian's life is his 'boss', Gary Watkins. Ian and Gary share similar interests and sense of humour, thus creating a great working relationship in the IT department at the Academy. Gary's enthusiasm for life, motivation and never-ending search for lifelong fulfilment are something that Ian looks up to and has inspired Ian to never give up on anything.
Other interests include mountain-biking, movies, web design, badminton, looking after a menagerie of animals and he is a member of the National Trust. He is a fan of old comedies and often jokes that he was born in the wrong era due to his love of comics such as Tony Hancock, Morecambe and Wise and The Two Ronnies. Ian's other passion aside from photography is music. He has a very eclectic collection including many rare LPs and CDs. He has an interest in pretty much every genre of music but is a fan of Harry Nilsson and Paul Simon. To say the least, he is a very valuable asset at a pub music quiz!
Currently based in the West Midlands, Ian is available for hire for personal and commercial use all over the country. His commercial portfolio includes a photoshoot for the Midlands-based band Marassa, Lichfield Choir group "GSharp" and was recently the senior broadcaster and cameraman for St. Richard's Hospice Midnight Walk in Kidderminster. He is also the official photographer of Q3 Academy with a number of his photographs appearing in local and national press.
