Simply Strings is a friendly group of adults either learning to play, or returning to play orchestral stringed instruments Our aim is to provide a friendly environment in which we can all improve our performance technique by learning from each other, whilst supported each month by a professional violinist. We rehearse in the Southend-on-Sea area.

We are of mixed musical standards – from novices right through to amateur musicians who play in local orchestras, although our main focus is supporting adult learners. We understand that it takes real courage and a lot of hard work to learn such difficult instruments later in life and since few adults take on this monumental challenge, it can therefore sometimes be an isolating experience with limited understanding or support from like minded people or opportunities to put your hard earned achievements where we believe they should be – in front of an audience!

Cocktail Parties PracticesWe meet together regularly twice a month to work on string ensemble music. One of these sessions is under the guidance of our Musical Director who is a professional musician and violin teacher. The year is divided into 2-3 terms and a repertoire is decided for each term dependent on opportunities to perform and the standard of current members. A folder containing music is provided.When & WhereOn the first and third Thursdays of the month at a local hall or member's home. Members usually take turns to lead the practice - but only if they are comfortable in doing so!

Performing is not compulsory, but preparing for an event certainly gives us an aim and improves our ensemble playing.
