Biography
I was born in Houston, Texas and am the oldest of three children. From a very early age, I showed an interest in performing, beginning with talent shows, and culminating with my involvment in musical theater at Stratford High School in Houston, Texas. In high school, I excelled in my academics and discoverd an interest in history and literature. Thus, my decision to study history at the University of Texas at Austin, was an easy one. While at UT, I have taken a broad range of courses and have received a well-rounded education.
In addition to my formal education at UT, I have also been active in a several volunteer organizations. Beginning at the end of my eighth grade year, and continuing until my last summer before college, I counseled at United Cerebral Palsys Camp Smiles. At Camp Smiles, I dealt with children suffering from Cerebral Palsoy on a one-on-one basis. Additionally, I have participated in several day camps involving children afflicted with an array of disabilities, both physical and mental. This experience has imparted upon me a civic responsibility to care for those who are less fortunate- a goal I hope to maintain and incorporate in my professional career.
In the Spring of 2009, I was given the life-changing opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy for a semester at Richmond University through the American Institute for Foreign Students. This experience not only allowed me the pleasure of absorbing the art, food and culture of Italy, but provided me a more comprehensive worldview as well. Due to Italy's historical position, at the heart of the European Renaissance, I was given the extraordinary chance to study some of Italys most esteemed churches and museums on site- essentially bringing many of the subjects I had previously studied to life. The opportunity to study history in such an intimate manner, left a lasting impression on me and ultimately inspired me to seek a graduate degree in business which would allow me to further explore the world and its many cultures.
Given my heavy course load over the past three years at the University of Texas, my professional experience is limited. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed the jobs I have held. I worked as a counselor, and event coordinator for St. John Vianneys Catholic Church's summer camp in the summer of 2008. Interacting with the children (aged 4-5), allowed me to explore my creativity when organizing day events. I also gained experience in dealing with the concerns of the parents, mitigating their concerns, while establishing a fun and worthwhile environment for their children.
More recently, in the summer of 2009, I worked as a server at Pappasito's Cantina. This job allowed me to connect with a wide range of people, and absolutely improved my interpersonal skills. The quality of my perfrmance was reflected in my being selected as Best Server during my tenure at Pappasitos Cantina. I am thankful for my experience at Pappasito's Cantina because I learned how to handle working in a high-stress environment successfully.
My future plans include gaining more work experience and ultimately attending graduate school. I believe that receiving a Masters in Business Administration will broaden my career options. As a result of my varied interests, I would prefer to be prepared to work in a variety of business sectors, affording me the ability to give back to the community, as well as providing me the skills necessary to succeed in the corporate world.
