Mr. Mills
Overview
I was born in Decatur, went to school in Decatur, and now teach in Decatur!
My love for education is partially because I grew up around many teachers. My grandfather and grandmother were both educators in the Decatur Public schools. My mother has been teaching 1st grade for Mt. Zion for many years and continues to do so to this day. My two sisters are teachers in Illinois as well.
I started teaching at EHS in the fall of 2005. I took a brief, one year, hiatus after my first year of teaching to follow my fiance to Iowa. We both decided that our hearts and homes were in Central Illinois, so we moved back to the area and I was lucky enough to be rehired for the district in 2007!
I am the Girl's and Boy's Tennis coach. This is my first year coaching the girls and will be my second year coaching the boys in the spring. I have played tennis my entire life and have a deep love for the sport. Both of the programs are very young and we are growing around a group of motivated students. If you or your child are interested in playing for Eisenhower please have them come see me in Room 123 for more information.

Expectations
Classroom Rules:
1. Be prepared: Book, Paper, Pencil. If you want to passthis is a MUST!
2. Raise your hand to speak.
3. Do not sleep or close your eyes for long periods of time.
4. Be on time.
5. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
Personal Conduct:
By following these rules, your behavior should be appropriate. When you choose not to follow these rules, you will be assigned a teacher detention. If a teacher detention does not work, you will be given a dean referral. If you are still having trouble following the rules, I will call your parents and a conference will be scheduled.
When a student does not correct unacceptable behavior after being warned, I will request that you be removed from class and given a teacher detention. For severe disruptions an office referral will be issued. If you are removed from class you are expected to remain silent in the hall. Refusal to do this will result in a dean referral.
Teacher Detentions:
Teacher detentions are served at the convenience of the teacher. Detentions are thirty (30) minutes long. At the time a detention is given, the student can serve the detention that day after school, the following morning, or the following afternoon. Failure to do this will result in a dean referral.
Tardiness:
Students that are not in their seats when the bell rings will be counted tardy to class. After the third tardy, a teacher detention will be assigned.
Assignments:
Students are required to turn in assignments on time. If an assignment is not turned in on time, the student can only receive 70% of the points earned for one day late and 50% for two three days late. Students are responsible for asking the teacher for makeup assignments. No assignment will be accepted without your name, date, subject, and period in the upper right hand corner.
Participation:
Students are expected to participate in class discussions. Class participation will be graded. Do not be afraid to "speak up"! This will be counted by the collection of tokens.
Make-up Polcies:
If a student is unable to take an exam on the appropriate date, the student is responsible for arranging a time to make up the exam. The student must make up the exam within the days that were missed unless other arrangements have been made. If you know ahead of time that you will be absent the day of the exam, please notify me before hand.
Extra Credit:
Throughout the semester you may be able to earn extra credit through means determined by myself. However, I do not plan on allowing students to write a paper or earn extra points through extra homework at end of quarter to boost up a grade.
Other Business:
Do not be afraid to learn and to participate. Yes, you need this class to graduate, but more importantly than that you may learn great amounts of information that will help you understand the world today. It is up to you to learn, so please do!
Lost Items:
Any items that are either lost or not collected by a student in my room are not the responsibilty of Mr. Mills. Hold on to your belongings please! Also, if you bring something into my room that is something not allowed by the school and I confiscate it and it is lost, it is not my responsibility. Leave those things at home! (examples: cell phones, cologne, mp3 players, etc...)
