Behind the Scenes with LehtMoJoe
New Year, New Releases!Posted: January 15, 20122012 starts off with a bang for LehtMoJoe, releasing a Soundtrack EP for the massively successful Motorcycle vs Car Drift 2 called Ride On and a crafty remix for Kontaktor's Back to School. Ride On combines the soulful growl of blues with the electro bite that Leht is known for, and features performances from Dallas-based Whiskey Folk Ramblers' Cory Graves and Mark Moncrieff. "Back To School" is a funky cut from Norweigen production team Kontaktor, reworked by Leht as a hip hop shuffle. Leht again adds Dallas flavor, bringing in galleryCat and Jaeson Green, who add a special take on their own back to school memories. LehtMoJoe Gets RemixedPosted: June 15, 2011Back in April, LehtMoJoe released his sophomore solo LP, Aisle7, which was a bit of a new direction for the local producer, incorporating lyrics and more standard 80's pop structures into every song on the disc. This week LehtMoJoe--who initially made a big name for himself by releasing loads of deft remixes--has been remixed himself by his friends and peers, both local and abroad. Artists who take Leht on include Joey Kendall's Family Circuits project, YeahDef, DJ Merritt, Giggle Party, Radio Krome, DJ DannyV, MrWonton, O'Dahl, Xavier Marquis, and Kontaktor.Give it a listen over at Bandcamp where it's also available as a pay-what-you-want download.Buy Aisle7 on iTunes Today!Posted: April 26, 2011Aisle7 is now available for purchase on on iTunes and Bandcamp for your listening pleasure! "For me, there is a greater feeling of accomplishment creating these kinds of songs. Taking a random lyrical melody in my head and turning it into a complete track is a bit different from my previous album, which is more rhythmically driven."What Leht did with the more club-oriented trait of Justice/Daft Punk/SebastiAn in 2009 he's attempted to do with the wistful sounds of Joe Jackson, Julian Lennon, Phil Collins and Vanity 6 that he first began recording onto cassettes from the radio back in the late 80's. "Growing up, we were remodeling our house and would frequent Home Depot and Payless Cashways for materials on the weekends, and outside of my brother cutting his finger on a razor blade we found in the store, or picking up the phones in the aisles and making noises into them, it was pretty boring," says Leht. "The one constant that would amuse me however was the song selection that was played in the stores. Hall and Oates, Phil Collins, and Billy Ocean dominated back then. So this is a throwback to that kind of music, sonically interesting with memorable melodies."Helping LehtMoJoe accomplish this task on Aisle 7 were musicians like Max Brown, Sedrick Stylez, Xavier Marquis, and Sara Dean whose distinctive personalities played a large part in shaping the album's characteristic attitude. In short Aisle 7 is full of those rare powerful instances that will one day be remembered, no doubt, as some of the genre's defining moments. The month of May will also see the release of an exclusive free remix EP in which select Aisle 7 tracks have been reworked by DJ Merritt, Giggle Party, Yeahdef, Kontaktor, Family Circuits, Radio Krome, ODahl, and more. Machu Picchu Goes OnPosted: March 30, 2011LehtMoJoe's latest remix combines Lupe Fiasco's "The Show Goes On" and "Machu Picchu" by The Strokes. Check out the raving reviews at SubEx, Indie Shuffle, and The Kollection... Or just check out the song for yourself here.
